Hi, I know nothing about digitial cameras and need some help on a digitial camera choice. I basically want know, are there any 'must have' or 'recommended' digitial cameras. Im looking for a digitial camera to take photos for textures and reference material for 3D modeling, and high quality detail is a must for me. I don't really have a budget, but I am paying for it with my own money (that I so happen have been saving, and need something to use it on), I would want know that if I had an expensive camera, it would have been worth the money. I have been looking at a Fuji FinePix S7000. It looks nice but as I said above, I honestly don't know if its worth the price or not, 600 here Your help is greatly apprieciated

This should turn into an interesting thread :> I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel, which I think takes nice images at 3076x2052 for a 6-7 meg JPG or RAW file size or 8"x12". You can also drop down to small images at about 2 megpxl. The price range now is anywhere from 899 to 999 if you purchase it with the 18-55mm lens. You can purchase additional SLR EF lenses for it just like a film camera. (I am looking forward to upgrading to the 1Ds in the future There are many preset modes or full manual mode as well. I suppose it boils down to budget and need. Good luck with your choice and hope to see some images soon! TMGraphcis

Since you have budget limitation, i would recommend you go for the point and shot DC. The Nikon Coolpix and Canon Powershot are great. If you are a photography enthusiast and not budget limit, I strongly recomment you go for the digital SLR. In the following link, you may learn more about most of the DCs http://www.dpreview.com I hope this may help you a bit.
