this may seem like a stupid question, but how do you do a thumbnail? I want to post a thumbnail of a WIP, but I am not sure how to do it. Suggestions please.

If it's only for one image, the easiest way is to resize your image to a thumbnail dimension (here in Freestuff section, you need a thumbnail of not more than 200x200pixels. After you resized your image, sharpen a bit. If it's for a bunch of images, use Batch utility in your paint program. I use IrfanView for all those things and I love it. France

I use something called Graphic Workshop Professional; it's nagware, but it's handy..you can click on a resize button and it creates a new file with S_Filename designation..can be found here..

curtskin, if I understand you correctly you just want to post an image here for critque or wip. Just make a render, I use 500x500 on my work screen , keeps image size reasonable for browsers. Export the render.jpg to a easily found folder. when you get ready to post include your picture by using the Attach File option. Use the Browse button to locate your file and you should be ready to go. Reminder, if there is nudity or violence, use the appriate radial boxes.

I size mine in Photoshop and have a real problem getting teh file size down. I've put in ZERO Quality before and it still exceeds teh maximum size allowed to post. Makes me insane. I FINALLY got one down below the high watermark by saving the file for the web. But it looks like Hell a little bit. Any suggestions out there. I'm baffled. Tx. Pam

I just do it in Photoshop. I put a 200x200 selection area over an interesting part of the image and copy and then paste to a new file and Save for Web. You can also use the crop tool in Photoshop, but be sure to save the .psd of the image first, since it does alter the image considerably. bonni

I've wound up cropping images until they should only be displayed in Mott's Miniature Museums! Even images that have very few colors give me grief. Go figure. I think "SAVE FOR THE WEB" is my only/best option. My other frustration level (just FYI) is typing on this new/different keyboard after having worked EVERY DAY on a slightly different style keyboard for 15 (18? :O NOooo say it isn't Sooooo) YEARS -- this seems to be happening far too much. Just don't know why I seem to now spell "the" as "teh" now ALL THE DAMN TIME. Another is "you vs. yuo" - and my favorite "becuase vs. because" Perhaps I'm developing dyslexic typing skills at age... JPEG compression can be varied. You don't need high quality for a thumbnail. There's no simple rule on whether to crop or resize. Often, it's best to do a bit of both. The aim is a small picture to represent the full-size image. And if you're uploading enough stuff to need a batch conversion, maybe you need to be a little more selective.

Well, since I can only upload one model per day here, I haven't needed to batch anything really. But I did manage to get the technique down with Photoshop and replaced my old (teeny tiny thumbs here in our gallery) with for 200x200 images. (All except the turkey, anyway.)
