Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
I got this from the Curiouslabs POser 4 FAQ page. Hope it helps. ----------------------------------------------------------- My computer freezes before it finishes rendering my animation. What do I do? This could be a video card driver issue. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your specific video card. You may also try reducing Hardware acceleration. Right-click the desktop > choose properties. The Display Properties control panel will open. Click Settings > Advanced > choose either Performance or the Troubleshoot tab. Adjust the Hardware acceleration slider to lower settings and test your Programs.
Go to CL site and get the memory app for poser 4. Problem with Poser 4 and over 1g of ram without running this app tool. Least that's what their site says. I have less than a gig of ram so dun have the tool installed or know if that may be the problem. couldn't hurt to try it. then run a small animation say 50 frames and see if it does that, then run it all night and see. good luck with that.
"I have less than a gig of ram so dun have the tool installed or know if that may be the problem." They are not talking about physical RAM, but the total of physical RAM and virtual memory ! Even with 256 MB of physical RAM there is a chance that you're exceeding 1 Gig!
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Aside from upgrading your hardware, one fix that might help you at least complete the animation eventually would be to render out the frames as tiff or bmp images. This way, if the render stops at say frame 40, you don't have to render the whole thing again from the beginning. you can start again at the frame it last left off. Then when you have all the frames rendered to images, just load them into a video editor and convert them to AVI or whatever movie format you wish. Doing this offers you more control over things like postworking effects into the video, etc.
I know it's not a great solution to your specific problem, but it would at least get you through it until you solve your memory issue. If you're doing this already, just disregard. ;-)

I have a P4 3GHZ PC with 8oo fsb, 1500MB of DDR 400MHZ Ram & a 64MB Graphics card. I am using Poser 4 & trying to do an animation using one of the pre-made animation files for V2 - which is around 140 froms long. I go to make movie choose the render setting & click ok. I then have to leave my PC on all night - only to find in the morning that it has stopped at fram 47 with a messaging saying I'm out of memory - is this REALLY the case?? I can keep clicking ok on each frame & it will get nearer to the end. - I don't know what else to do?? I thought with the memory upgrade ect that my PC would fly though these tasks - I'm also using WinXP Pro. Does anyone have any advise??
Many thanks
John
