Subject: Is DAZ pulling Mike 2 stuff?

Bruce_ ( ) posted Thu, 10 June 2004 at 10:43 PM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 9:32 PM

Last week I attempted buy the M2 Alligator coat and Engineer Boots, But something went wrong I had forgotten I had wrote a check the day before and the of course the purchase did not go through do to insuffiant funds, Ok So I got paid and decided to go for it again... UH OH, No Alligator Coat for Mike 2 to be found anywahere at DAZ,,,,Hmmm So I looked and looked and Looked and even went through all the pages for new releases and Mike clothes, I even searched through al the other clothes pages and found no Mike 2.0 Alligator coat that had been there a week before... Whats up with that? Is DAZ canning all Mike 2.0's stuff to further force sales of Mike 2.0 and his stuff?

The only alligator coat I have ever seen at DAZ is the one by billy-t for M3, He never sold an aligator coat at DAZ for M2 so Im not sure what you saw. One of my best sellers is my biker set, I have a version for M2 and M3 and though the M2 set is understandably not selling as much these days as the M3 version DAZ has never asked me to pull it from the store.

Brokered items at DAZ disappear all the time (well, ...frequently). Product offers can be removed for numerous reasons (due to poor sales, or a desire by the broker to market elsewhere, etc.). How you can make such a leap as one item missing = Michael 2 is canned is beyond me.

Nonetheless, the only Alligator Coat i've ever seen at DAZ is still there http://secure.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=1781

How you can make such a leap as one item missing = Michael 2 is canned is beyond me. Because it's all a big conspiracy to screw over people who like M2. I mean, DUH, isn't that OBVIOUS?! roll eyes bonni

Ah Bruce, that is one damn hairy ass, and too damn funny :) And three damn grotesque.... But (pun intended) you could make the M3 Alligator fit M2 if you clothify it in the P5 Cloth Room. There's a very good tut on it at the DAZ Arcana tutorials section. Basically, its the concept of making the coat drape over the figure (disregarding for whom the coat was originally designed). You set up an animation whereby the figure is 'shrunk' into the coat and then animated back to original size/position, meanwhile the coat is draping and conforming to the figure. Its ingenious. No P5? Make it conform the oldfashioned way....readjusting material zones and such. There's several tuts on that, but I have no links readily available.

I propose we split the (in this case unused) nudity tag into two: a) Pleasant Nudity b) Unpleasant Nudity and for good measure, perhaps one more: c) Run away! Run away!

Looks like someone pulled that artistic figure study from the thread. DAZ may not be doing anything to support pre- Generation 3 Millennium Figures (with the sole exception of Millennium Girls,) but they're not pulling Michael 2 items as part of any game plan. I know many customers don't like this, but from what I understand they feel that their primary income is and should be from products associated with the latest Millennium figures. I was once told "Michael 2 is too old to support." (Sorry, I prefer not to name names, but that was from a DAZ employee.) For my part, I'm looking forward to what I hope will be strong support for the new David mesh ... it's outstanding. Vicky, no worries ... there will always be plenty of support for her. :-)

Lyrra ( ) posted Fri, 11 June 2004 at 4:29 PM

well PoserWorld has every intention of continuing to support Mike1, mike2, heck we still support the Poser4guy! DAZ abandoning the Mike2 market leaves it open for other people shrug So has anyone made that cloning machine yet? grin Lyrra the Really Busy

As I've said before, if older stuff doesn't sell, is it because it's old, or is it because the price looks less good. There are reasons to want to use older items -- less of a load on system resources is one, and the whole accumulated value invested in Mike 2, or whatever. Plus the relaunch of Poser 4 as Poser Artist. Whatever the reason for the disappearance of an item, somebody lost the chance to earn a bit of money. That's a bit careless.

good choice of subject line butterfly_fish! Thanks :-) So what exactly is it that people want for Mike 2 that isn't already available? Just curious. -Heidi

I would like some cut off shorts...& some bathing trunks...I could have these already & just not know it LOL.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 13 June 2004 at 1:39 AM

The cut-off shorts can probably be done with a transparency map. A bit of fiddling, but not complicated.

"if older stuff doesn't sell, is it because it's old, or is it because the price looks less good." It's generally because either the product has reached a certain point of saturation (everybody has it) or it's simply been lost in the shuffle and needs to be "spotlighted" again. And "Bruce_", if you keep up with this strange thought in your head about M2, I swear to you I will unleash a stream of invective that will prolly get me banned for personal attacks. That or I'll start being really, really, really snide and demeaning. And I hate getting like that.
