Subject: Gold shader

I've got some gold shader beside the one that follow C3, but I don't find what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a shader that looks like the the horse in the C3 splash. That gold, to my eyes, do not reflect everything around like the basic gold shader does.

How do you make a shader like that?

Here's a tree for a gold shader I thought up out of my head. It does have some reflection turned on in it but you can turn that off by mixing the reflection channel fully to black. I based this shader from my wedding ring. This is just one of a zillion possibilities. -Kix

Here's another gold which is the Carrara gold modified.

Here's the rendered result. The center ball is my modified gold, the left ball is the Carrara gold and the right ball is my original gold. Mix these up some and you can probably get what you want. -Kix

Maybe a (large) noise shader in the bump channel (with a low bump amplitude) could help to have glistening gold in hdri renders, withhout the mirror ball/chrome feel. I do not have time to try right now.

This is a mix of two gold shaders using elevation as the mixer. The top uses a streaky texture map in the bump channel and as a mix between two colours in the reflection channel; the bottom uses a blotchy texture map in the same way. A lot of subtle variation is possible by changing the colours or values in the mixes and the elevation setting.

Oh, this was not easy guys! But thanks for your help. Falconperigot, the latter I would like to see a screen dump like Kix,' if you don't mind. I would like to try everything. I've been thinking about something in the bump as well, but haven't been successful with my experiments.

The top picture is one of the golds (with streaks); the inset bottom left is the other texture map shown for the reflection channel; the 'mixer' shader is self-explanatory, mixing gold1 & gold2 reference shaders through elevation.
