People were recently asking about making freckled textures, so I found a plugin that may help It is the free snowflake filter by VDL Adrenaline http://www.v-d-l.com/adrenaline_snowflakes.html What I suggest is opening a new layer on top of your skin file (in photoshop) and applying this filter with a low amount setting, a decent range in sizes and a half way hardness...and change the colour to a browny freckle colour. Then apply. Then in photoshop adjust the opacity of that layer to suit your needs Hope this comes in handy Rawn

Thank you, I took a look. Too bad they don't work on a Mac. :-(

And as I said in the previous thread, I made a brush for Photoshop 7, which also makes freckles. I don't know about brushes.. do they work on a mac as well as on a pc?

I have never had a problem using brushes made on a Windows machine in Photoshop on a Mac. For that matter, I've been able to use brushes made for Paint Shop Pro in my Photoshop. If you're still using v9.x, change the Type/Creator to match that of a brush that came with Photoshop. For 10.x users, make sure the extension is (I believe) .abr. Check that, because I don't have that Mac at work and it could be different.

Photoshop brushes MUST have an .abr extension or they don't show up as brushes I looked at 6, 7 and the elements demo I got and they're all the same

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Hate to disagree with you, Charlie, but are you sure you're running a Macintosh operating system.

I have just tested with Photoshop Version 5.5 (under OS9.2), Version 6.03 (under OS9.2), and Photoshop CS (under OSX.3). All three versions successfully loaded and used brushes with filenames of angels3.jbr, btfly5.jbr, and bows4.jbr.

Actually, I was surprised that Photoshop CS would recognize them, because OS X uses the extensions as identifiers.

For operating systems 9.x and below, the file type for all of the above was 8BBR and the creator was 8BIM (yes, they are case-sensitive).

Looking a little deeper into the OS X examples, I find that the Unix settings for files with a *.jbr extension indicate that the default application for such items is Adobe Photoshop CS. So this must have been set when I installed.

Still more research: in OS 9 (Photoshop 5.5 and 6.x), I can open and use files with no extension whatsoever, as in "50 More from Xaos" (without the quotes, of course). However, the type/creator pair is 8BBR and 8BIM.

BTW, the angels, butterfly, and bows brushes were, in fact, imported from a Windows source. I had to change the type/creator pair manually (actually, I wrote an AppleScript to do it; I get bored easily).

How cool, I have this plug in for a long time already and never really used it. Here I sat and wondered how to make freckles, I would have never thought about using this plug in. Thanks for the tip :-).

ernyoka -- any chance of making that brush available for version 6?

I have uploaded TrekkieFreckles.zip to the FreeStuff area. It contains two brushes, one for PS6 and another for PS7. As noted above, this was done with ernoka1's express permission.
