Subject: hacked

What the hell? My account was just hacked. Someone changed the password and deleted my three most successful works! I'm pissed off! Who the hell does that to an artist?!

If you haven't already, IM AgentSmith or Clay (our friendly neighborhood mods).

Immediately change your password. What pics were deleted? I thought I remembered you only having the 9 pictures? AgentSmith Bryce Moderator

Thanks I just changed it back. I had ten pictures and now have seven. Should I repost?

whoa! You memorize the number of pictures in people's galleries? ...spooooky! :)

Ang25 ( ) posted Wed, 16 June 2004 at 4:23 PM

did you copy/paste a link to something of yours here? Someone IM'd me a link and when I went to it I was suddenly logged in as them. Being friendly and all, I told the person and got out, but here's the weird part. That person somehow became logged in as me and I didn't give him any links! So that was a very weird and scary situation. And very worrisome that he became me when all I did was log off as him. AgentSmith do you have any ideas how that part happened and how I could avoid it? Is there something I can see in the provided link that would need to be left out? Thanks, Ang

Wasn't there a thread about this recently, where AS said you need to log out before copy/pasting a renderosity link into a post???

MoonGoat ( ) posted Wed, 16 June 2004 at 5:39 PM

Well this certainly isn't adding to my feeling of security. Well, I'm glad mrdodobird passes by and shared this. Anyway I think what ang described is where renderosity confuses another person viewing what a logged on person sees through a hyperlink with the member logging on some other server. This works for many other password protected systems like AIM and YFTW. I think I'll probably just repost what was deleted and fix my password. It was mysteriously changed from ******* to 'asshole' so I'm sure that it was hacked, but I just changed it to a near impossible to guess word. Clever me.

Well, this may or may not be related. On the 14th at 2:59 A.M. PST Norton Internet Security blocked an attempted intrusion while I was reading a post on this forum. Details: Attempted Intrusion "MSSQL_Null_Packet_DoS" against your machine was detected and blocked Intruder: www.renderosity.com(66.18.99.34)(http(80)) Risk Level: Low Protocol: TCP Attacked IP: Mine! Attacked Port: ms-sql-s(1433) Click on the address to trace the attacker You can get detailed information about this attack at Symantec Security Response I honestly don't have any idea what it all means. Either way I guess it's time to change a few passwords here and there. It's good practice anyway. Persevere.

So...if your password was changed, how did you yourself ever hack your "new" password? (So you could log back on as MoonGoat)

And, you had someone delete pictures of yours TWO seperate times from your gallery?

Because you DID have 9, two in front of "Calm Bryce Finish", (as of your first posting above), now you have 7.

The only time renderosity can confuse one computer with another is if a member has given out a link which has their PERSONAL ID info in it. And, then that person can only be "you" for perhaps 3 or 4 pages before they are stopped. Most people don't even realize they are logged in under someone's name as it is quite small at the top of the page. Otherwise, they have to have your password. I STRONGLY suggest everyone have passwords that have letters AND numbers. DON'T have just a single word as a password. Good examples; 45bridge86 09paper73cut29 AgentSmith

AgentSmith, it appears that a computer at Renderosity is infected with Slammer. But since apparently nothing's open at that port, matrixmode, Norton said the risk was low.

I understand that when I clicked the link someone gave me, I had inadvertantly became them, what I don't understand is how they became me? I never gave them a link. So what happened there? And is there a way to look at the link before you use it and know if it has that personID in it? I don't want to have it happen again.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 17 June 2004 at 6:02 AM

Were you on the same computer? --------- Always be VERY careful when you copy paste links. NEVER include in a link your ID info. (anything that looks like this at the end of a Renderosity URL); &Form.sess_id=4452288&Form.sess_key=218477351 AgentSmith

No i figured out who done it. They deleted to pictures on the same visit and their cough associate had changed my password but for some reason I was still able to log on, oblivious to the fact that my pictures were deleted and when i discovered the missing pictures, I went over to my porfile and found my password changed to asshole. I don't really care much. As you all probably know, I work on the extremely under-rated Bryce 4, but I will be getting Bryce 5 very soon and am very curious as to what this 'metaballs' thing is that everyone talks about.

I still use Bryce 4 when I'm not using trees or metaballs. It renders 8%-15% faster than Bryce 5. AS
