Subject: Unzipping texture file problem

tynana ( ) posted Sat, 19 June 2004 at 8:00 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 7:50 AM

Hi all! I recently downloaded a couple of free body textures from Ecstasy and TTs' archive page at http://www.tmweb.net/. I unzipped the file to my Runtime/textures folder and nothing. I tried unzipping to Runtime/Libraries/Character and nothing again. Thought I was doing something stupid, so I looked for a readme file and there was no readme. I went to the site and on the archive page the was a readme link, but there was no mention of where to unzip files to. Am I crazy, blind or stupid? If all three, please leave me my dignity. LOL! :) Thanks for any help you can offer! Duh! I am using Poser 5 and previously have had no problems with body textures, whether bought or freebie. :)

Have a look at the zip file. Just open it and see what file "types" are in there.

If it's just plain skin jpg's then you can place them anywhere and use the "Browse" feature in the Materials folder to "plug" that skin into the file.

Otherwise, try putting them in Poser5/downloads/runtime/libraries/materials.

I extracted some hair textures to there and am able to access them via the Poser Folders on the right; i.e. a "downloads" folder becomes available.

Finally, rembember that if you have downloaded skin textures for a character you do not have, then you may find the files incompatible.

Hope that helps.

Great! Thanks so much. I'll try that. Yes, they are just jpg's and I went back to the site and they were for V3. They are Red Hatia and Mauriella. Should have mentioned this in the first post! ~slaps forehead~ Thanks for the tips! :)

Here's a tip for you, and let me warn you that I am a Poser Novice.

Look about your different directories. You should be able to find your "human characters" and the jpg files for Don and Judy (the P5 Characters).

You can open these jpegs in a Photoshop program, and manipulate them for a desired effect, then save them as a seperate image.

I've managed to create a reasonable "freckled face" for Judy, though I'm still struggling with freckling the body.

If you're struggling to find some nice textures for Don & Judy (like me) then at least you know you have the option of creating your own.

Hope that's useful.

Chloe

TADA!! Thank you again Chloe! That did the trick. I don't know why I didn't think of that, must be getting lazy. LOL! Making my own textures is what I'm heading for, I hope. I bought Ecstasys' V3 base and I can't wait to try it out. But the free textures looked so good I couldn't resist!

Thanks again for your help in this! I guess my answer is that I'm crazy, blind and stupid. HeHe!

If you are adding a v3 texture and it doesn`t have MAT files, you can load the body texture and do apply to all and then load the head texture and fix all the head parts seperately, it is a bit fiddly but not as bad as setting the texture for each head and body part.

Thanks xantor! Guess I was getting lazy or something, I didn't think anything about the mat files(there or not). Got used to the self extracting files! Cool Deal!
