Subject: Antons' ponytail for Vickie - question

Lord_Lucan ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 10:00 AM · edited Sat, 14 December 2024 at 2:59 PM

I bought this maybe a couple of years ago, think I used it for a while, and recently re-installed it along with the rest of my runtime folder, again. So, used it for the first time in a couple of years.... huh? It's a figure for Vickie, but when I conform it to her, it goes down to her hips, and If it conforms to any body part I haven't found it. Also it doesn't fit her head, its too narrow, and too short (X&Y axis), fitting it by hand takes bloody ages! IS there some trick to applying this hair? There's no update on the DAZs' site, and no pose folder that I can see (Though there's a hell of a lot in there!). Anyone else use it?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 10:06 AM

AFAIK it's not a conformer. It has to be positioned and parented. Also, I think it's a style for V1/2 so if you use it with V3 you'll have to faff about to get it to fit right. If you are using V1/2, I dunno.

Have a look to this thread (link). Hope it helps

Yeah, using V1. Seems like a bit of a pain, having to refer to the read me every time, I think I'll use another hair figure/prop. I wish Daz gave refunds, though I guess two years is a bit long!

Netherworks has a conversion for Anton's Changing Ponytail to fit Victoria 3. Also conforms natively instead of having to be parented. Look under morphs & conversions.

Lord_Lucan ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 11:11 AM

I'm using it on a V1 Character, and I can't reset the figure to setup the hair because then all the parented props will change size, etc and the morphs will reset(yeah I know I could make a pose for the figure itself). Anyway, half the morphs in the expansion pack version (all the base morphs) don't work; they won't move from '0'. I'll use something else and remove it from the runtime, I'll save some space at least! lol!

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 1:33 PM

Are you in Poser 5? I think that displays all of the morphs, but in fact they are associated with different versions of the switched geometry (the "Changing" bit of the name). Here's a list I prepared a while back (the letters are the prefixes of the morph names): Change Bang 0 no morphs Change Bang 1 B morphs Change Bang 2 S morphs, plus sway morphs and length Change Bang 3 SC morphs Change Bang 4 FB morphs Change pony 0 no morphs Change pony 1 no morphs Change pony 2 SP morph Change pony 3 BOW morphs Change pony 4 Curls morphs Change pony 5 FALL morphs Change pony 6 no morphs Change pony 7 DL morphs Change pony 8 RF morphs Change pony 9 no morphs Change pony 10 SB morphs

adrianjw ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 2:18 PM

I was only thinking V3 conformer + Netherworks Millennium Conversion Kit = V1/V2 conformer.

Lord_Lucan ( ) posted Sun, 20 June 2004 at 2:20 PM

Well, I'll give it a go. Thanks all!

Is there any chance of Anton doing new transmaps for this hair? I always loved this ponytail, and I grabbed the V3 conversion as soon as I saw it (thanks SO much Netherworks!). Rendering it, though, I was thinking that a higher-resolution transmap would make it even more fantabulous... but it's beyond my very limited texturing skills, alas.

K first my usual rant and then the explainations. :)

First if you aren't going to read the readme for a tough product well....
Also the refund comment was uncalled for.

Ok now the answers.

  1. as it says in the readme, if your Vicki is zeroed and not posed it lines up.

  2. You can save a V3 conforming version by parenting it to a invisible blank Vicki and saving her back into the library. Use the invisible blank when conforming.

  3. Since it was made, P5 came out. Being broken and illdesigned, a new bug appeared where all morphs for changing parts appear all at once. It did not with P4. Check CL for refund there.

  4. The figure never claimed to conform and doesn't so that it is suitable for ALL figures.

Some morphs have prefixes like DL I added for the expansion pack. Here is a list of prefixes for the back pieces and their Change Part Settings.

If you Look in your Gemetries Folder you will see all the parts actual names. The prefixies are abbreviations of these.

Thanks Anton, No slight meant to you or your product. It was the lining up with a previously created character that made the Hair unsuitable - (for me anyway) - couldn't get it to line up to a character whose head/body wasn't in the default location. I gave up after 15 mins of trying, lol. I DID read the readme, but the X>Y>Z settings ARE fairly detailed, so had to read again each time I used it. Haven't used it with P5 yet(PPP) - I was wrong about the Base morphs not changing shape (Sorry) I think it was because someone said to 'lock actor' after parenting.

"3) Since it was made, P5 came out. Being broken and illdesigned, a new bug appeared where all morphs for changing parts appear all at once. It did not with P4. Check CL for refund there." I never used P4 but started with ProPack and it's the same there: all morphs in one long row. So this is NOT a P5 bug.

Are you sure? Anton means that Poser 5 shows all morphs, where poser 4 (and I thought ProPack) show only the morphs that apply to the currently switched in version of the geometry - which is how I compiled my plain text list of the morphs for the VCP above. Poser 4/PP show the visible channels in a single column - that isn't the issue.

Puntomaus, P5 was built on ProPack. The P5 alpha had a propack splash screen. P4 has always been the most stable version. I didn't care for ProPack either. P4 needs just a money jiggle to prompt the display change

Honestly this is the hair figure I've used most, and I've used it on about all the female DAZ figures at some time or another. It's one of the best, if not THE best, products I've ever purchased for Poser, hands down. As others have mentioned, it's not a conformer. I just load it, parent it to the head of the figure I want to apply it to and then work with the translation (zero everything after parenting then adjust) and scale dials on the body of the hair figure to get it correct - it's never taken more than a minute or two to get this right. Very rarely the base will need adjustment if I do out of the ordinary morphing of the head. I use plain Poser 4, so I've never run into the problems with the morph list you've had. My only complaint is that it's about time we got better, more realistic textures and trans maps for this thing - the existing ones are o.k. but with what I've seen from the most recent Koz hairs, I think someone could make an upgrade for the textures and trans for Anton's hair to kick it up a notch. And if you're still listening Anton - if you ever do a revision, a few more polys in the bangs would be good too. When you get to some of the extremeties of the morphs things become a little jagged, a few more polys might keep things smoother. Anyway, hope this helps some, Unzipped

Hey there, Thanks. Daz owns it and I am sure they will do one eventually or pay someone to do one. They have already proven more than capable of ripping off my work and methods using other people to do it (Mil Enviornment, Cloaks, FaceMasks, Morphing Dresses, etc). I will never sell my work to anyone again. That way I will never have to worry about derivatives, variations, and ripoffs without comphensation or credit, either by companies or greedy brokers.

I've always loved this hair Anton and that's why I spent a good bit of time making it conformable and fit to V3 (actually I did this a very long while back for V2 for personal use, just to see if I could without making gross changes). I hope you don't mind that I did this as it was only an attempt to slide a little layer of icing onto an already outstanding product. :) You are most certainly one of the folks I look up to regardling Poser figure innovation and I don't write that lightly.

I forgot about this post. Was looking for an old image I did. Seems I was right. Only a month after this post. Bah... Anyone have it and know if they used the original geometry anywhere?

The new Morphing Ponytail is very unlike the original. I haven't tried to look at it in a modelling program, but I'd say that it's probably an original creation, because it's pretty different in a lot of ways (and not, IMHO, as versatile, plus it's harder to use). bonni

The braided cage is what caught me eye right down to the number of braids. It's pretty distictive. It's the one that looks like a round birdcage made out of mini braids. I wireframe screencap in Poser would be great.

Here you go. Apologies for the size of the image, but I wanted to include several angles (the one on the top right is actually from the bottom) and at good enough size to see the wireframe fairly well.

Okay thanks Bonnie. It is, at least, new geometry. I glad about that. Still pretty swarmy though. I guess is is all about technicalities these days. :( sigh
