I hate football too. Did england win? I was hoping they would lose and get put out (I am scottish :) ). Well there is one consolation, they wont win the euro thing...

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 7:10 PM

But more seriously. I think that the OT topics being back in the forum is a great idea.

leather-guy ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 7:29 PM

"But more seriously. I think that the OT topics being back in the forum is a great idea." I quite enjoy them here also - I like that they indicate the OT in the subject so I can search them out when I'm in the mood for something lighter.

England has a "Football" team? I am really not into sports.......but I am rather surprised by this? I thought you guys only played soccer? Like I said...........I AM NOT into sports..so maybe I am wrong? In any case.......your picture looks like a true fan or a "Football" wife! LOL! Great pic in either case. (:

Dizzie ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 12:04 AM

you need to hang some pics on the wall.......

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 12:46 AM

Genny - to us, football IS soccer. It's always been called football in the rest of the world, you know ;-) And Dizzie, we're redecorating at the moment, so currently my back wall really looks like this, but yes, we do normally have some pics hanging up there! Actually it's lucky they're not there right now or they probably would have got splashed with beer last night! Hehehe...

Yeah we crazy Americans go and rename things so they make less sense. ;) What the heck's a soccer anyway? Nobody's socking anyone, they don't play in socks... somebody just made up a word and it apparently caught on. Not to mention that American football has more to do with throwing than it does with feet...

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 2:29 AM

Rugby is also known as football just to make things clearer :)

elgyfu ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 2:45 AM

And I had to miss part of the match so as to bid for a Guitar effects pedal on Ebay. Mind you, I guess no one else was using Ebay coz I won it for a brilliant price! But why did Beckham shave his hair off again - especially now we have that sexy Beck-alike hair ffrom Daz (the wedge cut 2).

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 3:21 AM

Fashionably late The name soccer comes from the word asSOCciation it is association football. It was called soccer because there already was a football in britain. Rugby football.

Fashionably_Late ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 3:38 AM

Ah, so that's where it comes from! Thanks for the clarification xantor, I didn't have a clue. I spent a year in England but sports aren't my thing, guess I missed the terminology stuff. ;)

elgyfu ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 10:06 AM

** Elgyfu, being a sad old cow, rushes off to check out the Beckham-alike - thanks shazz501. **

"Fashionably late The name soccer comes from the word asSOCciation it is association football. It was called soccer because there already was a football in britain. Rugby football" Close but no cigar. Football (soccer) was well established long before Rugby.

Yes :) I forgot that rugby was invented when someone picked up the ball and ran with it, but at least I got the association part right.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 11:49 AM

That you did, xantor. The event you mention is "detailed" in 'Tom Brown's Scooldays'. And for anyone else out there who is still confused: Soccer = Association Football Rugger = Rugby Football

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 1:09 PM

Except that if you confuse Rugby League with Rugby Union you may get lynched (or is that no longer the case now Rupe owns the game?)

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 1:41 PM

Is rugby not a lot like american football?

elgyfu ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 2:02 PM

Seen, drooled and brought! Yep, Russell looks just like Beckham. Now I can't wait for the download to finish so as to render him. ** Elgyfu goes and has a long drink of water and a quick swoon in anticipation **

elgyfu ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 3:26 PM

OK, got it. And the result is now in the gallery. OK, so it was a quick hour creation but it is just what I had in mind for wallpaper. Thanks shazz501, very pleased with this purchase, just what I had wanted for a long time. Come on England!!!

ScottA ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 8:08 PM

The guys running around in shorts and funny socks are just there to kill some time before the REAL game starts. The actual sport is when the crowd starts rioting and killing eachother. ;-) -ScottA

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 22 June 2004 at 11:46 PM

I was thinking of doing a follow up picture the view from my tv this evening and showing a fat guy sprawled in front of the tv with a can of beer in his hand and scratching himself with his other hand.

KarenJ ( ) posted Wed, 23 June 2004 at 12:32 AM

Go for it Xantor, it would be a nice change from over-muscled hunks in the galleries ;-)
