Hi Shadownet, Thanks blush I'm really busy these days, so I haven't had enough time to play with new characters. But I hope to have some time coming up soon. I really need to make Victoria and Michael into some great characters. I noticed tha there are no morphs for Michael :( Well this is another thread. As for the Contest. I re-counted, over 500 entries, and we've narrowed them down to the top 30. I'm very excited, they all look so great. James
hmmmm.... well, you shoulda got your emails by now (i know somebody who got an honorable mention! ;) ) um, j, who did the math on these final specs again? you can't do 2200 x 1250 and keep the original proportions. 2200x1700 okay, 1618x1250 okay, 2200x1250 -- squish! just like grape! :) (unless alternates are supposed to be cropped.)
Well congrats, Bloodsong! Guess I'm a loser just like I predicted. There are just so many good artists out there and with 500 submissions it must have been a hard choice. I been on jury selection for shows before, so I know how it is. Congratulations to all the winners. I'll just take my pitiful work and post it somewhere. grin
Is Zygote going to post a list of winners soon, even before posting the images? Even if they are contacting people individually, it would be nice to see the list so we had confirmation we lost and can go and lick our wounds and use our art for other stuff. ;-) I don't think I'll ever do another contest again like this, it was my first and it was way too much pressure to not hear anything, not even an autoresponse to let me know that they actually got what I sent in after so much work and waiting this long.
Well, I understand your feelings diana, but if you're going to submit art for shows and contests you'll find out the there is a myriad of ways galleries and such handle this kind of thing. I agree with you an auto response would have been nice and I think it also would have been nice if the losers had gotten an email to the effect of: "Thank you for you submission for the Zygote Calender Contest unfortunately we are unable to use your image at this time. With so many wonderful submissions it was a difficult choice to pick out 12 images out of the 500 or so we received. Keep up the excellent work and we hope you will consider submitting images to any of our future contests. Thank you, the staff at Zygote" However, maybe this was too difficult with so many submissions, shrugs I don't know... The advice I would have for you, diana, to try to detach yourself from the outcome. I'm sure you did a wonderful job, but there are so great artists out there that competition was stiff. As I mentioned above, I've been in on the selection process for juried shows and sometimes its personal preference for an image and not so much skill and talent. I think we should start our own "Loser Gallery" LOL
Ok peoples, I have notified Zyogte to read this thread, and hopfully notify all winners and losers of the status. But as I said, everyone who submitted WILL be shown in a several pages on Zygotes site. There were no Bad submissions! So in my opinion, they were no losers. And yes it was incredably hard to choose. ;-) I hope they get back to you soon. James
heyas; i've been pestering them for an autoresponder on the gallery email. not only do i not get notified that they've received a file, i don't get notified that they've accepted my work at the gallery, PLUS i often get 'this mail could not be sent for 4 hours, but we are still trying' messages when i send to them. if they just put an autoresponder that says 'your image was received,' and nothing else, that'd be fine. then a human could go through them and notify people who get accpeted into the gallery. anyway, who won??? fess up, you people!! :) congratulations to everyone all around! diana... ya can't win 'em if you don't enter 'em. ;)
Yep Bloodsong, it's really worrisome when you get your stuff sent back to you four times because their server is down in the middle of the contest, then when you do resend, no autoresponse to let you have peace of mind that your hard work had been received. This was after I found out I had to rework an image because the wrong dimensions were given on the original contest web page, it was an exercise in frustration but I've learned a few things. ;-)
Hello everyone, This is Eric here at Zygote, late on friday night. I just finished gathering and responing to all of the winners and entrants. I believe there were 547 images submitted total. We had a difficult time trying to narrow down to the winners. I tried to set up an autoresponder but did not have much luck. All of the entrants now should have recieved an email from us. Thanks again for all of the hard work and if you have recieved an email from us (and were not picked for the calendar) feel free to post your image on any gallery. We would be honored to post some of them in our gallery. It can take 30 images per month, so please submit. We will soon unveil who the winners are (and possibly their work) on our site with a special callendar section. Thank you for your patience. Eric Allen Zygote Media Group
Hi All, I got the notice this morning with the results of the contest. I thought this part was especially generous of them - "As such, we feel it appropriate to reward everyone with a $30.00 gift certificate for the time and effort that was put into making the submitted images and for the support that was shown to our contest. One certificate will be issued to each entrant (regardless of the number of submissions). Please be patient as we get the gift certificates sent out. This gift certificate will not apply to entrants who were picked for the calendar and will, therefore, receive other prizes (ie, the 12 prize winners and honorable mentions/alternate images winners)." Now that's customer service. A big thank-you to Zygote! If you haven't seen the list, here's the winners - "Episode 14 Scene 19 " James Lee "Wings" Will Kramer "Frost" David B Mattingly "Sleeping Sculpture" Martin Murphy "Bomb Squad" KEN CLAYTON "FUCHSIA" by MC Rayes "SAFARI" William (Bill) Heng "J.Darnell" James Darknell "Shadowrun" Rainer Bendig "Nocturnal Angels" William (Bill) Heng "DeanChaney2" Dean Chaney "Lamplighter" James Schoenberg Alternate Winners... "Bullet Time" HENLEYERNEST "Episode 14 Scene 23" James Lee" "Lethal Beauty II" by B L Render "Holy2" Rainer Bendig "Headhunter" Jeff Whiting "BigPokerGame" Eric Lindahl "Resting" David Crowe "Faerotica" Bruce Huffman "RaptorAttack" BY Andy Simmons "Dawn at Giza" by Alexander D. FOr those wondering about the Calendar Contest, I can shed some light on this. Over 400 entries were submitted! That's got to be a Poser record. ;-) It is now down to the top 100, and will progressivly be reduced to the 12 or so winning entries by the last part of this month. Sooner I hope. I must say that ALL the entries were exceptional, And Zygote will try to post ALL entries for everyone to view. That's well over 150 MB of pictures. Yes Zygote's been very busy. The choosing of winners is very hard since we really had so many great renders to choose from. So If Zygotes a little slow on the news, I'll try to keep all informed. James
