Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 01 9:10 pm)
Before rumors get circulating, DAZ didn't purchase Lightwave from Newtek. Newtek could buy DAZ. I'm sure they're just an authorized reseller, since they trumpet the fruits of Lightwave with using it in creating a lot of their models.
Tools : 3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender
v2.74
System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB
GPU.
I'm excited about DAZ acquiring Bryce and hope to have more handshaking with Poser 4/5/6. Err... Un-bloody-likely? As I understand it there will be a D|S import of sorts, but no Poser. (Why doesn't this surprise me one darn bit?) I've abandoned Bryce 5 (and I was on Bryce since Bryce 2) in favor of Vue d'Esprit, but I find that P5 actually renders nicely in most cases and I don't need to resort to exporting it to something else to render it. Am I going to pick up Bryce again just because DAZ bought it? Actually... not to put too fine a point on it... that is probably more reason than ever for me to drop Bryce into the bin.

Un-bloody-likely eh? ex Daz Newsletter... "Working around the clock, DAZ has prepared a content import pluging for Bryce 5 that allows you to import most Poser content* into Bryce. In just three simple steps you can have all your favorite content loaded into Bryce, complete with texture and transparency maps. This plugin is included for FREE when you purchase Bryce 5 from the DAZ website, or can be purchased for $1.99 if you're a Platinum Club Member. If you already own Bryce and are not a member of the Platinum Club, you can get the plugin for a mere $20.97" *P4 Magnets and some P5 content will not import properly.
Nor will animations 0 because it's NOT a poser importer. it's a DS importer (actually not even that - it's a .OBJ importer. you import your pz3 into DS then export that to .OBJ. then you impoort that into Bryce). those r the 3 steps - it's not a direct poser importer, and daz seem unlikely to write one.
Well, Poser5 came back from it's NDE and works well, and CL have (cough) joined forces with a big Japanese 3D manufacturer that will certainly create its own line of baebes, so what's the future of Studio? Idea: buy Bryce and allow people to import Poser stuff in there, but through Studio. I suppose next step will be a new line of Millenium figures with Claude Bonet maps or so for the joints, and plugins for LW, C4D, Max, Maya, XSI etc, but all through Studio. That's called: doing business. Besides: Studio was released as an alpha, and most people tried to use it as a full app. I think concurrence for poser is good. As is concurence for Studio also. Buy B5 for less than $50 with that plugin for Poser content included is great. But Bryce does not export to what I want...
I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)
Davker - I am not going to hold my breath that it works. Reason? It very likely will NOT import P5 - after all, Daz do not support it. It very likely will NOT import PZ3's directly either. If I need to install D|S to make it work - no thanks. Vue does import PZ3's, even from P5. So.... which program am I more likely going to use? Considering I switched from Bryce to Vue because of the added Poser support? Bryce has been gathering dust for years now. I'm not going to go back to it unless a miracle happens and it imports P5 directly. And that means without a middleman.

I was checking out the new Bryce 5 ads in the DAZ store and saw at the bottom of the page links for "Related Products" and saw one for "Lightwave 8.0". The link leads to a blank page, but in the past I've seen DAZ put up links to new products before it's in the store. I'm excited about DAZ acquiring Bryce and hope to have more handshaking with Poser 4/5/6. But anyone know anything new about Newtek-DAZ relations? Anyone hear anything from rumour control about this?
