Subject: What is pcf extension?

Francemi ( ) posted Fri, 25 June 2004 at 12:54 AM · edited Mon, 29 July 2024 at 3:33 AM

I downloaded many freebies the other day and I am installing them now. I've just ran into a pcf file instead of an obj file in the geometries folder. Is there something I can do to get it to work in Poser5? I really like the item. ;o) France

Yes you can. PCF is a file that is encoded with ObjAction Mover by Maz (search in free stuff and you'll find it there :o) ) It's an encoded file, and that means you must have the original obj files to decode it (like if someone made a character based on Vickie and encoded her to ensure that the copyright wasn't broken) Mover is very easy to use so don't worry :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

yes. This is aa pain for the moment, lol -- hold one while I kick the brain into gear. pcf files are encoded using a program called "mover" that available here in freestuff from MAZ. I think. This is the brain part. I will double check to be sure. instructions are usually included in the readme with the product, but it works something like this: you open the program, load the "seed" file (the object the new thing is based on) and then load the pcf file. You press a button and it makes a new .obj file that is used by the cr2.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have that Mover and I remember using it before, now that you tell me. But this time, it doesn't say which object to use. This is all it says in the readme file (I thought I had read the file before posting my question but obviously, I hadn't) ;o) "This version of the costume is conformable to the P4 Nude Woman (Posette). It should all unzip into the correct locations if you extract to your Poser4 folder. You then need to decode the .pcf file to a .obj using Objaction Mover" Does this mean I should use P4 Nude Woman obj to convert the pcf? I don't think so, but then, what am I supposed to use? France

The current version has a nice simple interface which tells you what file it needs for the decode, since the info is stored in the .pcf -- you then have to find it with the browser/pick window. I suspect you might need the "original" version of the costume, whatever that is.
