Subject: Confound and be bothered!

I dare say, Poser 5 appears to be in league with the goblins!

Perhaps, some good soul here can recant to me the spell of exorcism needed to correct this current infestation.

Whilst browsing the pose folders, I find one shows only a text display of the content. Whereas my other folders appear to prominently display thumbnails. Clearly this is the work of goblins, gremlins or brownies! The moon is not full, so I tend to discount brownies. Nor have I been snacking after midnight, so I find gremlins unlikely. On the other hand, there was this - forgive me for saying it - rather cute and cuddly looking goblin I found crying out for love and affection on some cybernetic island of misfit Poser toys. He seemed innocuous enough, at the time, but now I must wonder....

in the latest patch of POser5 they enabled a widgit that would switch it to text only if more than a certain number of items was in a folder. either remove items, or do the edit, which honestly I can't remember at the moment. Hopefully someone with more remembrance will be along to tell you how to fix it. Its not you, its Poser :) You're going to hear that alot Lyrra

Just go in and change the value in this folder ---> Runtime/prefs/LibraryPrefs.xml, change to like 50 or more, then all your thumbnails will show. Hope this helps you out. Cassie

Dizzie ( ) posted Sun, 27 June 2004 at 10:34 PM

where in that document do you change it to 50?" I'm looking at it and I don't see anywhere...

Thank you one and all for your camaraderie in time of need. I shall attempt the spell sassecasseb conjured up and Goblins begone!

Dizzie, THis is the line in the folder that you change. I have mine set to 200. .

EricofSD ( ) posted Sun, 27 June 2004 at 11:58 PM

I believe the default is 100 so you need to go higher if you have more subdirectories in your folder.

I think what Dizzie means is if you go to edit/preferences while operating Poser, the .xml file is not a choice. Correct me if I'm wrong guys and gals, but I think you have to go to that 'pref' folder, and use a text editor to change that number in the libraryprefs.xml I think that's what Dizzie's asking. Anyone care to give a quick walkthrough on how to edit that .xml file?

Dizzie ( ) posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 2:05 AM

what I'm asking is...I opened the libraryprefs.xml file with notepad and I don't see anywhere to change any value to 50....

saxon ( ) posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 2:12 AM

Ummm, why not just divide the folder up into a more manageable size.....

ynsaen ( ) posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 2:16 AM

Dizzie, your XML file does not appear to be a 4.1 file. Runtime/prefs/LibraryPrefs.xml will contain a line previewNum="100" Change the numer to anything you want. If it's a low number, your library will display fewer pictures, a large number will display more pictures. (And, I hear tell, that if you can wrangle a mathematical constraint in there, Netherworks falls under your command....)

lol -- cross post... well now, what would be the fun of that, then?

Well bless my buttons! It worked. No more goblins hiding thumbnails on me. What an interesting thing, Poser. Is it common with Poser users to tinker around with the program in this way? I have seen numerous references made to modifying cr2, pp2, and other Poser files. There was also a thread on rearranging Poser runtime folders to suit ones fancy. It rather all seems quite magical and mysterious at times. How does one learn more of these little tricks? - Brey

Yup, it's very common. The best way to learn is to look around for tutorials and ask questions here. There's a Technical Forum for more in depth information about geometry handlin, CR2 hacking and the like. PoserPros and RDNA have some good P5 tricks, FallenCity has several very good tutorials for P4 and P5, DAZ has a lot in Arcana and the forums, and there's a tutorial section here somewhere, although I confess I can't see it at the moment.

This is most interesting, I'm so happy, thank you. I've been having the same problem with all my Microcosm stuff from RDNA, I think this should fix it. 8)

What a wonderful place this is. Such wonderful people. Thank you again for your help.

Now to ynsaen mostly deeply I convey....
