THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT, Something to listen to....

Attached Link: http://zhanns-place.com/za/musictest.html

I'm adding music downloads to zhanns-place (midi until I can get some mp3's set up) and I need some input...

-does the button to listen and download(hover over the name) work?

-does the midi play okay?

-what do you think of the tune, need work, etc?

-what type of music should I include on the page(s)?

Some of you may recognize the tune...:) I value your input, thanks. Zhann

I keep getting "Cannot find server". Is the link correct?

electroglyph ( ) posted Tue, 29 June 2004 at 9:57 PM

Everything opened in a new window. I clicked "Listen" and the broken Quicktime icon came up. Now that page is frozen :(

Zhann ( ) posted Tue, 29 June 2004 at 10:02 PM

Well, it's not a quicktime file, hmmmmm, let me check the link. Electroglyph are you on a MAC or PC? The file .mid would also need to be active on one of these, RealPlayer, Windows MediaPlayer, MusicMatch Jukebox, whatever you listen to your music with....

quicktime played it fine for me. interesting music. you might need to install quicktime instruments and some other tools of the devil to play it. drac +pc's

I checked folder options and mid and midi extensions are supposed to be handled by Winamp. I have to kill all windows to get rid of the hung one. Let me do that and try again.

Arg So the ship is sinking and they're up on the bow. What does she say? Not "Were all going to Die" but, "Oh look Jack, this is where we first met."
I played the file by pasting the url into winamp.
Went into the IE Media window under Media options and said reset defaults. Quicktime came back and asked to download instruments. Now the file plays in IE.

Played immediately for me with a QuickTime plugin (big surprise because I'm usually diligent about what aps run files. Aside from the technical aspects, I liked the "theme" behind the music... some Celtic or Gaelic notes, but I didn't like the "techno" beat. But, hey, that's just me. The web function worked fine. (There's also something about MIDI (vice MP3 or WMA) that I've never liked -- too computer-ish)

Worked on the first try through quicktime player. I like the tune. Moody Blues right? I can't remember the name of it though. One of my old favorites. As far as what type of music to include in the pages why not go eclectic? A bit of everything. Persevere.

Interesting to see the difference between IE and Opera. On IE your page links display fine, the music opens up on another blank page and plays with Quicktime. On Opera, the page links are indistinct, but always have been, the music plays great and on the same page!

I have IE and the link sends me to WinMediaPlayer in a new window to play, close that and your back on the page.... Nice to know how different browsers and players work....I'm suprised at how many use quicktime for music....

The link worked just fine for me..opened in a new blank window with quick time...I don't care for the "techno" either. But the tune is very familiar? I like the tune. I like your pages over all Zhann. They are easily navigated, pleasing to the eye. :)

Please name that tune. :^) Seriously.

used quicktime on my end too. opened in a new window, and played fine. one other thing, I don't know if you wanna know, but here goes. the background starts to repeat because I'm on a higher screenresolution (1280x1024). don't know if it's intentional?

Zhann ( ) posted Thu, 01 July 2004 at 6:13 PM

@TheDane, it's designed for a max of 1024x768, so anything larger and it will repeat, not many people have the screen set that high.....
