Subject: Permanent Booleans

Is there any way to make permanent booleans with Vue 4? So that, for example, if you made a difference with 5 objects then you could push a button and it would become one object and still look the same. I don't think there is but I thought it would be worth asking.

Not with Vue 4, unfortunately. You can do that (bake to polygon) with Vue Pro. What I usually end up doing is to use a modeling program to make the object (C4d ce or 3ds max) and import it. Brings the polygon count down, too, usually... MN

How can you import an object from Cinema into Vue ???

Export as an .obj. Import. Untextured (dammit). MN

But that is the problem I'm having with Cinema. If I export the model as an obj I loose all the texturing I've done in Cinema. If I export it as a 3DS object the texturing is intact but the object's faces are messed up in Vue... :-( I'm starting to hate Vue for it's lack of 3D object support... Too bad Vue didn't support a plugin for importing Cinema objects....

Cinema and Vue, 3DS Studio and Vue, etc etc. Have you ever thought about that the lack of these import plugins may have the reason that these companies don't want that? And don't allow these plugins simply? Poser do not have any, Bryne not, Amapi (in the version i have) even has no obj. im-/export etc etc. It is not always a technical problem, can be a copyright one too. Have you ever tried lwo (Lightwave objects)? Is an option too. Ah and i forgot. Cinema has some material options that Vue does not have. And vice versa of course. The import of impossible features for a software is.... ... ... impossible. Yes. Could be a reason too. I had cases where the import of obj-files worked perfectly and cases where it simply was not. Because of the used material features.

I don't know if this will be a help at all but... I've noticed that Vue4, is alot like Bryce in so far as it's GUI. I remember once reading in Bryces help files how to do just what you asked above, it had something to do with 1st making a boolean object, then using that symetrical object tool/board. I've noticed that Vue4 has that same phrasing so maybe it's possible in vue4 just as it is in Bryce. I remember when I was reading that in Byces help file it said, "this is the most valuable trick you'll ever learn" in so far as using Bryce was concerned anyway. So see if you can find out more about doing that in Bryce, and then maybe you can do it in Vue too. But then again maybe not. It's just a guess on my part. Xersius_x@yahoo.com I.B. Anim8in'
