Ummm, what's "minimum"? No Helios's cattle, no Polyphemus, no Calypso, no ship, no weapons?

:( Action scene without people or animals? And without a good memory of either story? Looks like I'll be waiting for August. I've never read either and vaguely remember Sinbad being on TV many, many years ago. :-D I'll practice other stuff and be ready for the next one. This challenge is sure to produce some awesome renders!

Colette1 ( ) posted Sat, 10 July 2004 at 6:47 AM

I'm with Ang, I know I read them but have no clear memories. I will research it though and see if there might be something I can do. Prolly not but ..never know! I know we will see some real artistry with this one though. Great challenge Zhann!

I did a web version of Andrew Lang's Arabian Nights. It has all seven voyages of Sinbad. It also has the great illustrations by Ford.

I could do a Trojan horse....would that qualify?

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 4:33 AM

Okay, lets see..... ~Try for the unusual and exotic in your images, and convey the atmosphere of a place and time when the world was virtually unexplored... ~get references if you need them, google your hearts out...movie story lines are acceptable as long as they follow the original stories... ~Golden Fleece was Jason and the Argonauts, no ~Trojan horse, fall of Troy etc.,ah, no, whole different storyline.... ~If the scene requires imports, ships, horses, harpies, minotuar, weapons, gorgons, anything relevant, okay, just try for mostly Bryce.... ~Postwork, keep it small, for corrections and minimal enhancement(itsy bitsy), try not to have any if possible

Ang and Colette, I didn't say 'without' animals or people...and the exotic cities and landscapes contained within the stories are also possiblities, action scenes are not mandatory, just more interesting....please don't be put off by the subject, there's alot there to fire the imagination, and the scene doesn't have to be super complex.....

I retract the troy thingy, seemed Ulysses divised a way to burn it down at one point.... so yes Troy is included.... I'm without my regular computer it's being wiped, so I don't have access to all my reference materials.....

Well, there are some really detailed passages for scenes in it, and a few good abbrevated versions, shouldn't take to long to read, maybe a day, Sinbad's adventures on the other hand were a series of short stories, 1-3 hours tops for reading......

Erlik ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 7:01 AM

Errr, Zhann, Ulysses did not devise "a way to burn it down at one point", he came up with the horse idea. Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes... :-) Scylla and Charybdis would be more interesting for creating in Bryce. IMO, of course.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 10:46 AM

Zhann, I meant no animals or people for me, I'm not poser literate. But maybe something will come to me. And to those who gave links, those were very good, very helpful. Thanks.

diolma ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 4:53 PM · edited Sun, 11 July 2004 at 4:54 PM

Oh!

And there was I thinking that the Sirens were part of "Jason and the Argonauts".

Drat!!!!

Now I'm going to read both Useless and Sinnedbad for the 2nd time...

Cheers,
Diolma

"Now let me get this straight..." no, that was return to Zork! So, what you're saying is - poser figures are allowed? just no imported greek ships, weapons and andimals and such? andimals - (c)bikermouse 1984.

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 7:06 PM

I give up, geez, YES IMPORTS ARE OKAY, just try to do the majority of the image in Bryce @bikermouse, if you find a model of an andimal, by all means use it......;p

Thanks Zhann,

I've always thought that being able to use imports were a neat part of Bryce - after all, as grandpa mouses once told me, "Noman is an Island ... ". (I've been afraid of Noman ever since.)

As to an andimal I'm afraid you'll have to settle for my interpretation of them; needless to say they are for the most part undocumented although now thanks to you there is at least one vague reference to them in passing other than mine(unillustrated) . . .

cheers and again thanks,

Oh silly me : It seems that there are several references to andimals on the net - either as wolves or birds ... or perhaps a combination of the two - sort of like harpies except the canine variety???. here's some: http://my.ort.org.il/holon/birds/bf47.html " Nest, domed structure of dry grass, leaves, stems, moss, lichen, twigs, conifer needles, bark fibre, often with rootlets and pieces of rotten wood, lined with finer grasses, rootlets, andimal hair, and feathers." http://sharon.edwardpultar.com/ "That was fun. We also saw a kiwi bird, which is very rare and almost extinct, but a very well known andimal from NZ..." http://home.earthlink.net/~myriah/p11eyes.html "...The dogs close behind, The watcher rips into the baying andimal's fur And streaks off again, a bolt of light..." http://us.geocities.yahoo.com/gb/view?member=dinomwinn "Wolves are not a domestic andimal and just maybe - even tho he may have loved you - your "beloved" wolf decided to..." hmmm . . . now how to fit this into the challenge lol. . .
