Subject: Buy Stephanie Petite?

LanceB ( ) posted Sat, 10 July 2004 at 1:29 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 4:32 AM

Can anyone explain to me why I might want to buy Stephanie Petite? There are petite versions of V3 like Kashmira out there if you need a smaller model, or you can scale down v3. To get started with S3P it may cost over $100 for the basic model and one set of clothes. Then you can buy all this other neat stuff, but is it different enough to spend the extra cash?

I think it depends if V3 modded figures have clothes support, if they can wear SP3 clothes (or V3 stuff easily) then they may be a better buy, Scaling V3 down won't be the same as she's not just smaller shes kinda different, more of a tomboy shape if that makes sense,LOL........i prefer her over V3 but thats just personal taste ;o).....Steve

actualy if you buy the base model and the "starter" kit it is only about $90. youll get the model all the morphs, some hair, a texture and second skin clothing. Thats assuming your not a PC member and getting the additional %30 off. which would make it about $63 I picked her up after i got david because of the special they had going. buy david get a discount on SP. I ended up paying about $29 for the base and starter pack. why would you buy her? I suppose you could say for the same reason you'd buy poses, expressions, or characters. with the exception of the texture, its just a little dial fiddling. save some time, spend some money.

I am not happy with Steph 3. In retrospect, I should have bought Jim Burton's Ingenue Vickie, instead.

elgyfu ( ) posted Sat, 10 July 2004 at 3:30 PM

I like Steph 3. She has become my favorite character. Why? Well her face seems somehow better than Vicky's, whatever morphs. She makes a good sexy fairy - I never felt comfortable using the Mill Girl for that. Personally I do not like Jim Burton's figures - they are too skinny. But at the end of the day it all boils down to personal preferences. Would you have uses for her? Do you like the look of the things you have seen other people do with her? Can you justify the cost?

If you don't see the difference between a scaled down V3 and SP, then don't spend your money.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

S3 and David are quickly becoming my favs over M3 and V3. S3 is unique in that she doesn't look like a Barbie doll all time. David is just plain sweet.

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a Barbie Doll/Playboy Playmate, then don't buy SP3. One more problem with her -- she lacks good shoes, probably because her feet are so huge.

First let me say that this is my opinion. Im not a big fan of SP3, I find that her head has an odd shape; her neck is too long; her Traps are too large; her arms are too long; her hands and feet are too big; and her overall shape has a kind maleness to it. In the picture is a comparison between Stephanie 3, and a character I created from V3. My character represents someone who is around 52 tall. There are a number of images in my gallery of her; I dont think anyone seeing those images understands how short she is. There is more to it than just scaling Vicky down, but I think using V3 you can come with a better petite character then SP3.

Thanks for your input everyone, I'm more educated now but still undecided about purchasing SP3. I guess we have different opinions about what's beautiful in pixel girls just like we do about the real thing. Grey Cat has done a beautiful 5' 2" version of V3 on his site along with instructions on how to do it. He also has some very original and interesting faces. Take a look!

Thanks to Tyger_purr for helping me see the light. I mean, my God, $90 for Stephanie Petite?! Crap, it seems like every other day, DAZ or someone else comes out with another new character. And oh yes, you need to buy new textures, clothes, whatever. Before too long the characters you've had in your collection no longer have any support, and you're stuck once again. I'm getting off this merry-go-round.

I prefer S3 and David to V3 and M3 in some situations. S3 is more realistic in build, and can achieve realistic muscularity without the problems V3 has. V3 has the better face and morphs, though, so if it's for a portrait shot, I often do it with V3, and if it's a face I /really/ like, I convert it to S3. Same with David. M3's got some nice face morphs, but his body is just... not realistic. David's is, and David goes from slender to bulky with a much more realisticness. Steph Petite's breasts DO seem off, though. In her defense, however, so do V3's.

Personally I love Steph, she's fast become my favourite character. Sure there aren't as many clothes for her, but since I have a Poserworld sub, I'm laughing - Steve now makes all his clothing sets fit V3, V2 and S3. (And all male clothes are now released for M3, M2 and David. Bargain!) The fact that Steph takes V3 textures also mitigates the cost somewhat. I like the way Steph bends, and I find her face morphs well, although she does suffer from not having the ethnic morphs that V3 has. When all's said and done, if you don't like the look of her or don't think you'll use her, then don't buy her. Different strokes for different folks ;-)

Not to blow my own horn, but there are other figures available at DAZ, one of which is even more petite... ;-)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 12:40 PM

Well, I see more young women with a body like Posette than with a body like V3. Me, I need to lose weight.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 2:27 PM

I love Steph Petite. I don't know what it is, but she just poses better than V3 - much more naturally.

Lance, if I were you, I'd wait until DAZ has a sale. They have them fairly often, offering 30% to 50% off their "originals." Buy Steph Petite then. If you don't like her, DAZ has a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Strixowl ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 4:38 PM

Yup !! what randym77 said. I use both V3 & S3 simply because their differant and I can get differant looks. As for clothing I've been able to get allot of V3's clothing to fit S3 and so many clothing paks are now coming out as combos for V3 & S3. I like S3 allot :-)

Except Ingenue V3 continues the 'pin up' look. She's gorgeous, but she always has this... air brushed quality to her (as in, when she's rendered, she has few 'natural' flaws. Perfect body, etc). S3 is the cute girl next door. I tend to prefer some amount of realism for my own work, but as I'm a commission artist, I also keep V3 well stocked in stuff because I still use her. S3 with some custom morph work.

If S3 is the "cute" girl next door, I better move to a better neighborhood (perhaps next to Hef). Someone once commented in these forums that S3 looked like "Trailer Trash." (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 7:52 PM

I think Steph is pretty enough. V3 used to have more head morphs, but now that the "International" morph pack is available, Steph's almost caught up.

And I really like Steph's body. She's got a slender, willowy look, that's great for a teen character. She's not just a small V3. Her hips are narrower, and it's easy to make her flat-chested, if you want (for a young girl). V3 takes some work to give her a similar look, and she often doesn't move very well once you've morphed her that much. And then you have the problems of clothes not fitting. Steph may not have as many clothes as V3, but she's got a better wardrobe than most of the morphed V3 teen or preteen characters.

Netherworks ( ) posted Sun, 11 July 2004 at 9:56 PM

I like them both but S3 does have big feet unless you have this:

Petite-HandsNFeet.jpg

(just click the pic to download it).

Honestly, they're both based on a unimesh core, so besides recutting the mesh - S3 is really just a bodymorph/rescaling of V3 turned into a different base figure.
