Hi all, I recently purchased the "David Elven Magic" face package from RDNA. For some reason, the thumbnails don't want to show up (see attached pic). The thumbnails do exist, are in PNG format, and are 91x91. So, can anyone suggest why they are not displaying correctly ? Thanks in advance. regards, Andrew

You will be happy to know that I had the same problem and solved it by leaving pixel 1 blank. The way to do this is to take any existing png file and copy the contents of yours over the top minus the top left hand corner pixel (Pixel 0,0). I don't know why but there seems to be a pallette problem that Poser can't handle.

Thanks, NeilP. Can you tell me how you did this. I have Photoshop Elements - I tried to zoom in to the top left-hand corner, put in a 1x1 square selection and then Edit/Cut. The background color showed thru'. I saved it, and went back in, but there was no difference. I assume I can do this in PS Elements ?? .... I also have Ulead Photoimpact, Fireworks and GIMP. regards, Andrew

I assume you have Poser 5. Sometimes they do something screwy with the PNG files. If you also have RSR files, just delete the PNG file. Then load that folder/library, and Poser 5 will create its own PNG file. I bet you'll be able to see the new png file just fine.

You could use Yarp's P3DOExplorer. It has an option to "fix empty png's" by doing just that (at least I think that's what it does. It has to do with the original png not containing an alpha channel. Was this something you bought here? If so, I must say the testing seems to be more and more erratic here.. First the Boone hat with inverted normals, now this...

you need to get the author of the product to fix the problem....:>0

Thanks, ernyoka. Your P3DO solution has worked. Specifically what I did was as follows : (1) Selected Image/Edit Image from the menu (the RSR either was opened up or created and opened). (2) Selected Copy Alpha Channel. (3) Selected Paste Alpha Channel. (4) Saved over the top of the PNG file. regards, Andrew

As ernyoka1 pointed out the "fix blank png" filter in P3DO Rsr2Png plugin is another way to fix the problem. Transparent PNGs have inverted alpha channels. The fix blank png filter checks if an image have alpha channel - so it won't modify other pictures - and then invert the channels. This is the only purpose of "fix blank png". btw If I recall well, I'm not sure, "fix blank png" doesn't really invert any chanel but checks if the channel is the right one. i.e. it won't invert a good transparency but will fix a bad one. Yarp, I couldn't find "fix blank png", but the solution I adopted was thru' P3DO, and achieved the same thing. regards, Andrew

The "fix blank png" is a little bit hidden unless you know where to look :o) Here's how to find it. (Not a critique of your great program, Yarp)

Thanks Ernyoka, mathman you need to install the Rsr2Png plugin which is included with the P3dO Poser plugin pack (link above). As the name says this pack is a Poser addon to P3dO. Ernyoka, of course not, but you're right anyway the pack should be included with the P3dO setup. I don't know how to deal with this, but It would be better to make a special setup for Poser forums. This way everybody would have the Rsr2Png and Renamer.

Wow thanks for the tip. I didn't know about "fix blank!"

mathman ( ) posted Tue, 13 July 2004 at 5:06 PM

thanks yarp and ernyoka.... I downloaded the plugin, however it didn't work for me. I'll stick to the clipboard method. regards, Andrew

You could load all this PNGs into Photoshop and simply go to Layer - Layer from Background and resave them, that fixes the problem. Like ernyoka already mentioned it's the missing alpha channel that causes the problem.

Mathman, If it didn't work, can you send me some of the PNGs to yarp@senosoft.com (I just need the PNGs not the Poser files). I will see what was wrong with those pictures.

It's still a lot easier just to delete the bad PNG files, then let Poser 5 create the png files.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 9:44 AM

Not if the RSR's are created from the PNG's Ron. Which they are if the creator has Pro Pack or Poser 5. And in that case the rsr's are bad too.

As mathman, send me the picture I found out what the problem was. Just a non transparent PNG and as I said above Rsr2Png doesn't fix those (I thought all non transparent PNgs where correct because they shouldn't have a layer but this one has). So, easy fix for me, soon available. It'll be Rsr2Png 1.3.2.

I've had many bad png's where the rsr file was just fine, and my suggestion worked. My main suggestion is to always try the easy way that often works, before recommending a more difficult way that may not be necessary.
