Subject: Well this stinks!

Just read the news over at DAZ... It seems that Sara has officially become discontinued. Apparently she is no longer available for download. I know there has been a burst of Sara enthusiasm lately, but this means that if you don't have her already, then you're out of luck. On top of all that, some didn't like the 2nd version so may not have kept her. Where does this leave those that have been making content for her?

Could mean that GIRL will be arriving soon.

as manager of the sara fan club ...we would like to see her stay hosted somewhere as a free character and i still don't see how sara 2 is ugly..but, hey thats just me..lol i do have both versions.. it seems that daz is rethinking the idea of getting rid of her...for those of us who like and use her we are keeping our fingers crossed... netta the original sara was a cartoon type doll the sara 2 version is still free for the moment to download see her forum thread... and she looks more life like than cartoony

I just read over there that for the time being, you can still download her ( version2), till they come to a final decision. IMHO the 2nd version is cute.

Its a shame that it is happening, bnetta and others like us were starting to save her from this, but we still can. You could try talking to the creator of Sara and ask him to let it be hosted in another place.

Francemi ( ) posted Tue, 13 July 2004 at 11:42 PM

I wonder if Dark Whisper has sold the rights to Sara to DAZ or not. If he didn't, maybe he would be interested in hosting her elsewhere. If he still has the rights to her, there is not only DAZ in the world. Anyway, now more than ever, we need people who own Sara (1 and/or 2) to join our Sara's Fan Club. Even if it is only to show DAZ that Sara can live without them. I don't remember the name of the guy who said his wife didn't use Poser anymore since DW changed Sara without telling. If you read this post, talk your wife into joining us. ;o) And P.S. I will NOT buy GIRL. I am disgusted by this whole affair. France

I've just uploaded a portrait of Sara2 to my gallery. I may not be the greatest artist but I can't believe someone could look at her face and seriously say "she's ugly".

You can still download Sara2 at DAZ (don't know for how long though!). See link attached. The preview images are for Sara1 but the content of the exe files are Sara2. France

Stupid question...does the content that I bought for the original Sara work with Sara 2? I think I got everything that was offered including the textures. Do these work with Sara 2? And if not, will those of us who bought them get a free update for the new one? Just wondering. Marque

pokeydots ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 5:28 AM

The clothes will work, and some textures, but they said there may be problems with the eye area on skin textures, and I don't think original sara morphs will work on the new one

Marque, only the face has been changed, the body is still the same and clothes and morphs for the body still work fine. I tested one of the original textures (the photoreal texture from DAZ) on Sara 2 and couldn't find anything wrong - not on the eyes and not on the lips. Seems to be a problem with textures where people do not follow the template exactly.

Besides that: Sara has been a freebie and it is the creator's own decision what to do with her. DW has explained his reasons over and over again but it seems like people either don't read it or fail to understand. If he does not want to support her no one can force him. This is a business decision and as such should be respected. That's life, even if you don't like it.

And what I cannot understand at all is why people who have Sara1 and all the add ons that work perfectly with this version still make such a fuss.

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 5:58 AM

Because if you lose the model and the new stuff doesn't work you are out of luck. Also annoying, and don't get me wrong I love Daz, is the fact that they say DW's stuff is Daz original, and most of it that has been offered in the PC was offered here first...lol I realize that if a free object is pulled that's fine, but to pull the clothing is kind of rude. Oh well...it's happened before and will happen again...no big deal. One thing I'm glad of, found out I'm not the only loon who has feelings for these little digital beings. 8^) Thanks for the info on the textures, that was my main concern. Marque

Puntomaus ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 6:10 AM

Regarding DW's stuff in the PC: DAZ has bought it and that makes it a DAZ Original, even if they didn't make it themself ;-). The David textures or the International Beauties are a DAZ Original as well but Morris made them. I am very sure when you loose the model you can still contact DAZ and they will find a solution. I don't think they would leave their customers alone in that case.

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 6:13 AM

I know Daz support is great. The David textures and International beaties were never sold anywhere else, hence they are original to the Daz site, but the DW items were sold elsewhere, hence not original to Daz. Not a biggie, just annoying...lol Marque

It is the fact that they want to remove her. We're not asking them to create more stuff for Sara, we're only asking them to let her be. And it might be "life" but it is a very bad marketing decision. All those who bought stuff for Sara and all those who created stuff for Sara will surely think twice before buying something else at DAZ/DW. What's to tell us they won't remove another model after Sara? They say they can't change her copyright because it would be a precedent... taking her out like that is a precedent and not a good one. Don't think that this will affect DAZ' business in anyway or that they will loose sales on other products. There have been so many people in the past stating in public they will never ever buy anything from DAZ again because of this and that and whatnot and they are still in business.

I agree... does that mean we're suppose to take all the crap and say nothing? If everyone thinks he/she can't change anything, then you may be certain things won't change. It's like the lotteries: if you buy a ticket, you probably won't win; if you don't, you certainly won't win. France

I said something. I bought the Sara Starter Pack on the 16th of June. When the announcement was made yesterday, I figured "less than 30 days" and HEY GIMME BACK MY MONEY. And they did give me back my money. Today, I moved all the Sara stuff out of my wishlist. May not have been much but if you can, start asking for refunds on Sara stuff.

I bought Sara's clothing pak1 on the 3rd of July. I paid about 30$CDN for it with GST and currency change. I will not return it, because it is a good pak in many ways and I still have Sara and I will continue to use Sara. France

It doesn't make sense to drop Sara unless you are either losing out on another existing toon character and feel this is the reason OR making way for a soon to come toon character. It also doesn't make sense discontinue Sara 1 and instead slip Sara 2 into her place, unless for the afformentioned reasons. You could also elect to not buy an certain forthcoming toon character to show your displeasure in this. And a courtesy email stating why doesn't hurt either. There certainly is enough room for multiple toon figures as I think they all have their own personality. Hehe, maybe Sara is the unimesh, er toonimesh. ;)

I won't repeat myself here other than to post three links.

The first link is a search for "Kalypso" on the DAZ site. The 2nd link is a search for "Sara" on the DAZ site and the 3rd link is my message on the DAZ forum regarding their decison to discontinue Sara.

P.S. No slur is intended against the Kalypso character, just in case anyone here happens to be a Kalypso fan ... however statistically unlikely, of course, that may be... :-D

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 14 July 2004 at 3:35 PM

I replied to you at DAZ Forum, underdog, but it's worth repeating here. It is easy to see that Sara1 and/or Sara2 can compete with an eventual new toon girl at DAZ but Kalypso??? And I thought Sara2 was ugly without her morphs!!! I really liked that post and I appreciate the little touch of sarcasm in it too! France
