try positioning a camera on the 'back' side of the prop. This may give you some ideas about reversed normals or holes in the geometry.
The export to .obj and reimport with 'fix normals' sounds like an easy way to check it. I assume this is a single layer mesh. If it is a 'solid' mesh you might have distortion problems between the two sides of the mesh.

Thanks, all. Okay, it does appear that the polys are backfacing. When I import the original mesh (an obj from Maya with "Make normals consistent" set), the object renders okay. The problem appears to occur when I run it through the cloth room to shape it to Don's shoulders. This is regardless of whether I drape or not. Exporting and reimporting with "Make normals consistent" set seems to make no difference.

I'm trying to create my first free item upload. I've made a dynamic clothing prop of an A-shirt for Don. In looks fine in preview mode, and drapes fine, but the problem is that when I render, some of the polygons show up with the wrong texture--a funny brown color. I'm just rendering with default light and texture (just instantiating the prop in an empty scene and clicking render, nothing more). Anyone know what's wrong?
