This may sound like a noobe question but, can someone tell me how to make a new runtime folder without losing everything I have. Is there a tutorial on this somewhere? What all do I need to have in it ( object files, crts,textures,pngs ? ). Thanks for any help. Maybe Dr.geep has a tut. skee

Is this for P5, PP or P4? P5 is really easy. You just go to your Poser5 folder, create a new folder inside it and give it a name. I've named one of mine "Stephanie" for all my SP3 stuff. Then, I go inside the Stephanie folder and create one called "Runtime". After that, I just install everything into that folder. Instead of pointing to c:/curiouslabs/Poser5, you would change it to c:/curiouslabs/Poser5/Stephanie. It will all unzip into the Stephanie folder. I've got a runtime for each individual character that I enjoy using. It's made it so much easier for me to find stuff.

Thanks Kristta, I will be using them in P5, is there an easy way to get all the ( for example) Vicky stuff that I already have into a runtime by it's self? Or do I have to go and find everything one by one. Thanks again ...skee

In Poser 5, it makes more sense to create your extra runtimes outside of Poser 5. There is no easy way to move all your stuff to the new runtime. Besides, by the time you're ready to do this, you likely have lots of junk, or stuff that is messed up. It's better just to start over, and be selective about what you install.

I tried moving the stuff and it blew up. Couldn't find files and it tried searching for the files and stuff. It was a real pain. I finally just re-installed Poser and started with all new runtimes. I put them all under the Poser 5 file cause I've got a couple kids and also a husband who all use the computer. When they get to playing around, they know to leave folders like "poser5" and "bryce" alone. If I had something strange out there or just a name or a folder that said "runtimes", it would be impossible to keep them out of it. It was just easier for me with my hardheaded 11 year old to keep it all in poser.

Skee, unfortunately there is no easy way to put existing stuff into it's own runtime. You can start with the Cr2 - open it in a texteditor and look for the path for the Geometrie and the texures. You need to move the Geometrie folders and texture folders over to your new runtime. Been there, done that and it was no fun but I got it done.

I'm using PPP and as of today just started to backup my 4gig Runtime so I could make a smaller one. Thought I would get rid of lots of the stuff that I tend not to use but keep it nearby in case I had to switch back for some reason. Kristta's post has put the Fear in me but the idea of re-loading all those items and their SR1, 2 etc doesn't look fun either. I guess I will be the experiment and see how it goes just editing by hand. I'll let you know if it's a horror. But if you have P5 you should have a better go of it.

If you take a good look at a "default" Poser installation (stuff installed just as it came from the store), you might be surprised to find a baffling assortment of errors. I swear, even the "big name" online stores just don't seem to know what they're doing. In the end, it's better to start all over. Of course you need to have your Poser stuff, in its original format, already backed up. And you'd want to get CorrectReference Pro. Install Poser, then create temporary folders to install your new stuff.. Look at each item by itself, and make any changes necessary. In fact, you might be better off getting rid of all those folders with the artists' names on them, and creating your own folder structure with names that make sense to you. Once you get stuff installed, use CorrectReference Pro to handle any references that have been changed. When you're done, your Poser collection will work great, and make sense. You may be surprised how much faster Poser works when you have things setup right.

On a similar note, but in Poser 4, is there any way to create new categories in the Libraries directory? It would be cool if a second Pose directory could be created in order to free up the overly bloated one I have now. I've moved as many as I can into the camera directory and converted them to cm2 files, but with all the Millennium files in the Pose directory, which apparently have to stay there for some reason, my list is so narrow now I can barely figure out what's what anymore. I don't want to scatter all the pose files all over the kingdom, because I'd never figure out what I moved where. I would love to be able to add a Pose2 directory.

Any programming geniuses out there ever considered writing some sort of add-on feature for Poser 4 to expand the Libraries folder to create additional categories, or is that even possible?

I know, I'm probably living in fantasy land with this one, but hey, it can't hurt to ask.

I know a lot of pros suggest you rename the file extensions, and stick stuff in cameras and other Libraries. This is a huge pain in the ass since you need to rename all those files. Oh, and then, guess what? Your camera library becomes too full. The best solution to this problem is PBooost, available here in the Marketplace. You can create Banks for any topic you want. Pbooost switches back and forth between banks while Poser is running. I have a bank in each Library for Vicki, Mike, Stephanie, etc.

I use a program called 1-4a Rename to rename the whole library to cm2 extension (or whatever extension I wish to change it to), but I have no idea where I got it from. Maybe someone else knows the site it comes from. Anyway it's great for renaming extensions for the whole folder all at one time. I've heard of PBooost, but was never sure what it did.
