Hi all, I've created a couple of freebies but need a place to host them. Anyone had any experience with this and can recommend some good ones? Thanks, Carrie P.S. If you want to see what I'd like to put up follow this link: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=720581&Start=1&Artist=shamanka&ByArtist=Yes The character with texture for V3 and the white hair texture for Kyoko Hair.

If you have a reasonably fast permanently connected internet connection, (DSL or similar), have you considered hosting them on your own box? Not as difficult as you may think. Windows 98 and later already has the doohickey wosnames that you need. So you can effectively give away freestuff for free :)

"your own box"...?

I don't know of any free places but you could take a look at Renderosity's own file locker service. Reasonably priced for the lower GB space too. You can find it in the 'Member Options/My Services' box.

My freestuff is mostly housed in this "box" under my desk. New stuff goes on a main server but once the first rush is over it goes on here. In the winter it glows cherry red and keep my toes toasty warm :)

PhilC --- That means you have to leave "your box" running 24/7. Could that be bad for your machine. Becco UK --- Do you know if you can store commercial items in the locker as well ?

Mathman - You would need to check with Renderosity about storage of commercial items. I keep some of my own commercial items in my locker but there may be copyright issues if you wished to store someone elses commercial items.

I was talking about my own, so I guess that answers one of my questions....

Attached Link: http://www.8ung.at

I've been using 8ung.at for a while now. Only twenty megs but unlimited bandwith (as far as I know), and "hotlinking" is allowed. And no ads/banners. Not very fast though. Downside is that the site is in german only, but babelfish does a good job translating. A few others: http://www.fateback.com/ http://www.web1000.com/

My experience here in the U.K. is that most service providers give you some free space. I'm with "wanadoo" and get 100 MB, so I just use that for my freebies.
