THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: alt-space bar-click&hold-wiggle mouse-sometimes ctrl

Sloppy key-jabbing lead me to this combo. Now of course, I'm certain I read about it somewhere, but it was quite a surprise none the less. For those who don't know, in Bryce5, if you hold alt and hold ctrl and left-click the mouse, and hold the left mouse button and stop holding the alt key and stop holding the ctrl key and didn't forget to keep holding the left mouse button, a little wire frame preview window opens up right where you clicked. Move the mouse, slowly, don't forget to keep holding the left mouse button. Wow! The viewpoint of the little preview window rotates around the selected object. Neat huh. Now hold the ctrl key, you didn't let go of the left mouse button did you? Move the mouse again. Zoom and pan control! Go ahead and let go of the mouse button now. The director camera jumps to the new view! Oh, set a memory dot for your camera before playing with this. Now, some questions. 1)Why? 1a)What can I use this for, its fun and I want a reason to do it more often? 2) Can I get out of this without moving the camera? Now that I have Bryce5, I guess I need to revisit all those 'undocumented feature' pages.

Just when we thought all Bryce secret goodies and easter eggs have been discovered, another one pops up. You guys all know about the ctrl+alt+shift+dbl-click on the sun control circle then click anywhere in wireframe to move sun/moon to that exact spot thingy? I've always thought that either I'm the only one who knows and that I'm special ;) or that everyone knows and its blatantly obvious and I'm an idiot. Meh.

xenic101, where in Bryce 5 are you doing this? I tired it excatly as you say, in all 3 screens, nothing. MoonGoat, I've heard of it, never tried it until now. I see a blue/purple "Icon" pop up in my wirefram when I do that, but so far, can't move it. Still playin'....

MoonGoat, I see, you have to KEEP holding down "ctrl+alt+shift" to move it around in wireframe. I was just left clicking before.

Well, I'm at home so I can't check this on the PC but the way I do xenic's mini object preview is to select an object and hit Alt (Option Mac) + Space Bar, this should give a rotation icon which gives a pop-up preview where you click. Once the preview is showing, holding down Control banks the camera. I forget the zoom command on the PC but on the Mac it's the Command key. Control +Alt (Option) + Click puts a yellow star Icon which is the sun, Shift+Control+Alt+ Click puts a blue star icon for the moon. Once this icon is on the screen can use these commands anytime to move the Sun/Moon. HTH; Dan

you know what this comes from, right? it's from them silly Mac people. When they made Bryce for the PC, they gave it the same infinitely complicated keyboard shortcuts... Drac (has issues)

Lol, drac. I would (also) venture to guess, the GUI of Bryce was never completely finished. There is Ken Musgraves secret sunset lab, and also Kai and/or Eric have mentioned Bryce's unfinished GUI. AgentSmith

"There is Ken Musgraves secret sunset lab" I've missed that - where? J.

MoonGoat ( ) posted Wed, 21 July 2004 at 1:23 PM

Me too. Mr. Musgraves shouldn't be keeping secrets from us.

<< Now, some questions. 1)Why? 1a)What can I use this for, its fun and I want a reason to do it more often? 2) Can I get out of this without moving the camera? >> 1 and 1A Alt/Spacebar is a shortcut to the camera track ball. it is used to position the Director's or Camera's roll or rotation ( AKA pan and orbit ) 2. NO, and camera tools movement is not stored in the undo memory either. For more camera and viewing keyboard shortcuts go here. http://stevesartgallery.bryce-alive.net/tutorials/bryce/keyboard/shortcuts.html AgentS...I seem to recall the Skies your talking about. If I recall correctly he did some renders of natural sky occurrence that happen in the earth's atmosphere. Maybe I'm mistaken but I think these are things that can be accomplished in Bryce as it stands today. Maybe Calyxa or Doc could direct a link to that page ( if it sill exist )

Oh, the code Ken Musgrave made is still present and hiding in Bryce 4, he's not sure about Bryce 5, though. It is a "a full physical simulation of the propagation of light through a planetary atmosphere" See link for details. Ken said the code is complete, it just needed a gui. That's all. AgemtSmith

Now I remember, thanks AS!

Um nope what kinda voodoo is this? When it is in a rendered scene or in wireframe cause I don't get this mojo.

Stephen Ray ( ) posted Fri, 23 July 2004 at 4:37 PM

yup... that's the page I recall....you would think the code would still be in B5...but face it, we are talking about Corel here ... I never had any faith in that company... they had away of killing everything they touched...IMO
