Before I had the hard drive wiped I had 165 new Bryce5 mats created, that I had downloaded to CD.....I just went to load them on the second harddrive and the computer says it can't read the disk!!!!!!!!Everything gone, gone, gone, what tweaks me is they were my best, and were destined for free download....d*mn, computers suck....:( Any ideas on how to get them off the CD??

Did you finalize the CD? Sometimes that helps, when I burn a CD to put something on my kids' PC's and it says it can't read them. After finalizing the CD it suddenly can read the disk. Weird but true. Really sorry about your loss and I hope you get it sorted out!

Might want to take a look at something like CDRoller or do a web search for "CD recovery". Hope you get it sorted out. Dan

I'd try it in a different cd reader (and preferably a burner) before declaring it dead..

that suc.. wait... that stinks :/

Hold it up to the light and look. If you can see a band where the shineness changes then you have something on there. If you have two CD drives the regular reader may not be able to read the disk unless it has been finalized. Make sure you try it in the burner.

Ditto what Electroglyph said...

Stoopid question of the day - how do you finalize a disk-burn?

electroglyph ( ) posted Sun, 25 July 2004 at 6:01 PM

Finalizing depends on what your software is. Usually you have a check box on your burner software that says "make this disk readable in all drives. Finalize session," or some other thing like that. Roxio 6 has a finalize disk command in the file menu pulldown from the windows control bar.

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 25 July 2004 at 7:51 PM

Well, I put it in the drive of the other computer, and get something to the effect that the media has been corrupted and is stuck in a fatal loop, select another disk.....yes it's sucks, got my work cut out for me, need to look up my mat logs for the settings, what a pain.....;(

I'd check it in the burner you used to create it and check it with the burner's software before you write anything off.

I went to several sites, checked and rechecked the software bookletunder troubleshooting, tried some stuff that was suggested, nothing, a no go, so the disk is outa here, time to start from scratchon new ones, the thing that really is a bummer, is I rendered one or two pics of the mats, I look at them, and for the life of me I have no idea where to start...

One of my favorites, a mat called open-wound, have a great render of it, but no mat to go with the image...:(

Wow! Thats an impressive mat. Sorry to hear you have to redo them all. Of course because you said they were going to be free, you do have to redo them.

Great mat; damn burner! :-(

TheBryster ( ) posted Mon, 26 July 2004 at 6:28 AM

The moral of the story....make sure you check that cd before you wipe your hdd. I'm not trying to be cute or just talking to Jan...but some simple rules should never be broken. 1: Save that Bryce file, again and again 2: Backup everything regularly 3: Double check those burned cds..Even take them out of the burner and IMMEDIATELY put them back in. Then check them on a different pc. New habits are hard to get into, old habits die hard.

I have 150 cds with everything, but mostly Bryce on them, EXCEPT the presets I created that were loaded into Bryce, so now there's a little postit on the monitor that says 'backup Zhann's presets, NOW!' That one cd had my created material presets as well as my object presets, ugh, live and learn....when backing up don't forget the stuff you loaded into Bryce, or created in the DTE....
