I've finally converted to Poser 5. Wow, lots of stuff I *probably* don't need, but the new computer is tough enough to deal with it. Now that I'm all shiny and new, and lost all of my previous characters in a hard drive fiasco, I'm back to work. The link takes you to a render of mine which I believe looks photo-real. (A small part of that is no doubt due to hair-compositing.) The model is Stephanie Petite, and looking around at other people's work with her in it, you'd probably never guess. It's her stock body however, with just a little bit of Universal Magic mags on the chest. The Texture is Daz's Highlight and Contour w/Makeup. I've said it before and I'll say it again: All you gotta do to make Stephanie *rule* is turn her head back into V3 before you start morphing. V3's head can truly do anything. This character is using stock-only V3 headmorphs. (The expression morphs are Stephanie's). Only *one* minor ps fix was needed for any joint you see. It took about two seconds of "Liquify" to correct the very minor issue. My excitement is this, look at how wonderful S3 bends! You can actually lift her arms over her head and everything. Folks, if you haven't experienced the love and joy of Stephanie Petite, I highly recommend you do so. Once you fix her face she is way better than V3. Hats off to Firefly renderer. I think I like it :) -WTB (Babbling, excited to be rendering again after long hiatus)

Out of the box P4 Render I probably didn't even need to tweak that arm joint. Hmm.

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 12:44 AM

Yes, I love the way Steph bends, especially around the small of the back area. Much better than poor Vicky. That hair in your pic looks great. Photo compositing for the hair, hmm? Any chance of a mini-tut on that?

Sure! It's really quite simple: Load your render Tweak until you're ready for hair Open a pic that you wish to steal the hair from. Select with lasso the area containing the hair. Copy and paste to the Render document. Move it around until it fits, a bit of transform if needed. Now, use a soft eraser and carefully get rid of anything that isn't hair. Try not to get rid of any hair. If you must leave bits of background, try to color select it out by making it match your renders background. That's the gist of it. If you have any unseemly edges, like I did with this render, just whip out your Ravnheart Heavenly Hair photoshop brushes and add some hair back in. Good times. -WTB

I tend to agree that Steph rules and that's with only using her morphs. Mainly cause I don't know how to transfer V3's to her. [help, anyone??] I think she rules cause she's not so perfect, her body is moral-- I like her small frame, and she has a feistiness that lends itself to realism and imagination. Only her plump nose first got in my way a bit. The later morphs take care of that. V3 can bee utterly transcendent;t beautiful but there is something matronly about her that needs drastic morphing to get rid of-- and when you do get rid of it, you're back to a Steph look so why bother? But how do you get that wonderful variety of V3 morphs in stephie's face? There's a way to do the same with David too, I think, with Micheals morphs, although on a whole I like David much better straight out of the box. The two together are killer. Emily

Zarabanda ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 2:02 AM

I agree, SP is an awesome figure. She's a nice contrast to the Amazonish figures we're used to. How many V3 renders can you really look at any more? I also heartily agree about Poser 5. A lot of the features included may be less than useful, but the firefly renderer alone makes it all worthwhile. If you REALLY want a good looking pic then you take the time to set up and render in firefly, it is worth it. Still, its not quite time to leave Poser 4 altogether. I find that 4 & 5 work quite nicely together. I find myself exporting .pz3 files back and forth, often setting up my scenes in the stripped down poser 4 and then rendering them in P5.

Kiera ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 3:12 AM

Stephanie Petite is superior to V3 in many ways. I use her much more often than I do V3.

queri ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 3:23 AM

It's late and Steph's body is More Real-- not moral-- not in the scanties I put her in. :))) Emily

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 3:31 AM

yeah Steph Petite is great. But the best ever character from Daz has to be David. I hardly ever use M3 anymore. But I s'pose SP3 is the female equivalent of David. I'm just mostly rendering males (being a female I render what I prefer to look at)

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you convert S3's head to V3 ??

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 7:00 AM

I love Steph. And with the International Beauty morphs, her head is almost as versatile as V3's. I like S3 and David much better than M3 and V3. I just wish there were more clothes and stuff for them.

Has anyone down a hybrid of S3 body and V2 head? Anybody know? :] Fish

Why isn't more done for her if she is so superior? Everything tends to go for V3.

To get the V3 head injection for SP3 go to the "All That Daz" forum at Poserpros and look for the thread named: V3 & SP hybrid (nudity). Jaager has been so kind to provid it.

You don't need to make a hybrid figure, you can do it with just two morph targets, which you can later combine into one. I had a thread about it a couple of months ago...let me dig up the link... Okay, I didn't start the thread. Follow the link and read through for complete instructions. :D -WTB

I think it's because everyone has V3. She came out first, and is the main DAZ figure. Not everyone can afford to buy every new figure DAZ releases.

Also, Steph is petite. If you're the type who wants really humongous boobs, V3's a better choice.

Simderella ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 12:09 PM

I find her vile personally.. Her body shape is extremely odd.. not very pleasing to the (my) eye at all.. I can't do a thing with her, poor gal gets neglected... even with V3's morphs she remains firmly locked in Uggersville teehee.. I have to agree that V3's joints could use an overhaul, David's joints i think are the best so far, although i rarely use male figures. But i'll be sticking with V3.... I guess its all about personal choice though ;)

nakamuram ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 1:45 PM

I've given up on SP3. I can't get her breasts to look right -- they sag to her abdomen and her feet are awful.

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 2:44 PM

I like Steph's body shape. Her slender look is great for a younger character. Or for wearing clothes. Steph looks great in clothes that make Vicky look fat. ;-)

I don't find Steph's breasts saggy, but if you make them too large, you notice a certain lack of smoothness. I suspect she doesn't have as many vertices in her chest as Vic.

As for her hands and feet...there's a free morph that makes them smaller.

Kristta ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 4:15 PM

I fell in to Poser right as SP3 came out. I looked long and hard at all the characters before deciding what or who to buy. I got mil girls, David, SP3, and finally mil boys. I have totally skipped over V3 and M3. V3 just looks like a gigantic amazon woman to me. I know very very few women who are taller than 5'8". Vicky is like 5'10" or more and just looks huge to me. I firmly believe that a lot of future products will be released with both the males and both the females in mind. Kristta

mathman ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 4:39 PM

I've always thought SP3's face was a bit like a bratty schoolchild.

Skygirl ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 4:51 PM

I just love my little SP3 and for clothes...why not jump over to PoserPros...lots of stuff in the store...awww, can I mention another store ? Uhhh, sorry if its no-no...

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 5:09 PM

My credit card and I are well aquainted with PoserPros. They are having their "freebie" sale now, too. There ought to be a law against holding that so soon after DAZ's $0.99 sale. ;-)

Tunesy ( ) posted Mon, 02 August 2004 at 9:37 PM

Maybe I'll give SP a second go. I was disappointed with it. Haven't used it since the day I got it.

shaybear ( ) posted Thu, 03 February 2005 at 10:13 PM

actually IMHO, sp3's face reminds me of a gelfling from the dark crystal... I HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE morphing that chick, I really do.. LOL no matter what i do, she ends up looking like a mutant troll hahahaha .. breasts end up looking like she had implants but the surgeon used helium balloons instead of silicone, and the face ends up looking like somethin out of the xfiles. im gonna look for that hybrid thing at poser pros and give her one more go.. but if not, then im gonna just lock her in the "You wont cooperate so your in the black hole" folder and forget she was ever made lol
