Hello Everyone! Approximately two weeks from today, I will be driving across the continental United States from San Francisco to Boston to begin seminary! I will be attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts in their Master of Divinity program. Though I am interested in full time Christian ministry, I am currently planning to teach Church history or theology. This has been a dream of mine for many years. I will continue to make artwork, though I imagine that my presence in this community will be diminished while I am working away at school. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you through these boards or face to face (at Carolly's famous Poser parties) and hope to be able to stay in contact with you. Your friend always, Jay Button

Thanks for all the well wishes. As for the Poser parties, Dr. Geep, you'll just have to ask Carolly about those. Makes sure Carolly is not looking But, I can tell you they take place in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just don't tell her that I told you. Its all very hush hush. ;) Jay

Enjoy the confusion! I remember seminary as an extended period of metaphysically slamming my hand in the car door while trying to get a straight answere out of anyone. Loved the clsses, loved the information, it was worth the effort. Go get'em, Tiger!

Thank you CedarWolf for the encouragement. I tried hard to pick a seminary that appealed to my conservative view of the Scriptures as well as to my intellect (as small as that might be.) I can not tell you how happy I was when I learned that there is to be a special lectureship this year required by all students comparing and contrasting the works of Sigmund Freud and C. S. Lewis concerning love, the existance of God, and the meaning of life. I love C. S. Lewis and enjoy this kind of thinking through the faith very much. I believe God has led me to the right school and am very excited to get started. Thanks again for the encouragement, Jay

well..good luck to you Jay :) be sure to check out Salem...its a real eye and mind opener.

Thanks Dave-So! I definitely plan to check out Salem. It turns out that my ancestors settled there in the 1600s after emigrating from England. I know something about them and no, they had little to do with Salem's illustrious past, but I am interested to see if I can find any trace of their existance there. :) Jay

I lived in New England for several years... if you're interested at all in history, which you obviously are, it is just an awesome place. My daughter is taking some theology related classes. She belongs to a church that goes to the Middle East and Africa. I'm really impressed that you have followed your dreams. Not many people have the will....we get caught up in life maybe...or don't have the motivation and dedication. My sincerest best wishes :)

This is wonderful news, since you've wanted this for a long time. {hug} Have a safe drive across country and keep in touch. You may discover that there is more of a need for your art once you are on campus. Carolly

Thanks Pakled, for the well wishes. I will definitely keep up my art, Carolly. I noticed that there is a Fine Arts commitee of the Student Association, so I will be checking that out. Thanks again Dave-So for the encouragement. I planned to go to seminary shortly after receiving my bachelor's degree, but its taken me seven years to get started. Though there were some very real world issues that slowed me down, I think I was partly just frightened of the task. I am glad I am going forward with it now. It feels like I am doing the right thing. Thanks again everyone, Jay

Oh, man...CS Lewis and Freud...I'd pay GOOD money to sit in on that lecture set. If they offer it on tape, please, let me know so I can order it. That'd go great in my library and as resources to use in teaching.

AS a former GCTS grad I'm sure you will enjoy seminary! If you are ever in the Sharon, MA area drop by my church. I would love to put a face with the art. http://www.sharonchurch.net In His Grip, Phil <>

Cedarwolf, check out The Question of God by Dr. Armand M. Nicholi, Jr. It's published by Free Press. The lectureship is based on this book and Dr. Nicholi is giving the first lecture. Good to hear from you, Dan! Keep on modeling! Thanks Phil for the encouragement! I have only heard good things about GCTS from those who have attended it. I will most definitely check out your church if I am in the area. :) Jay
