and which is the better version??? the boss here wants to get either/or and I'm meant to tell him which one we should get...so which is best and what are the features? anyone anyone (bueller bueller)....??

hey sean, i haven't been able to pry loose the boss's credit card for my upgrade yet but the things that have me (CS-wise) are the:

Layer Comps (best feature, for me, considering the painstaking method i do now even with "layer sets")

Revamped Histograms (get to see the ramps for ALL the colours at one time)

16bit support and RAW format

there are a few "small" tweaks that intrigue me like, "variable base" dynamic graphics from layered image. PDF output of layer (easier comp presentation for clients). the ability to output a "history" of what you've done in PS (makes it easier to "time-card" client work)...

can't think of more at the moment (just woke up and not yet had my Java [that's coffee, NOT the programing language ;0]) but i'm sure i'll be back ;)

How you register the program.

The Image Browser is much, much better in V8 and selected images from within there can have automated actions applied to them in a batch process. It can also be used to search for keywords etc much as an image database program would do. There are several good new tools, filters also. The Shadow/Highlight filter is a godsend for poorly lit photos as you can independently (and easily) adjust the shadow and/or highlight areas. Nice new Match Color filter to another image source. Handy new Replace Color brush. No mater, if you have the option to get either version then go for version 8(CS). The Creative Suite pertains mainly to the Version Cue Java, Tomcat software. That's interesting but I haven't used that too much as it is rather slow. There is no "phone home" registration on the Mac version (yet).

I came here to ask this very same question! Am I understanding that Version 8 CS is the same as 7 only with extras? I am about to purchase this program myself and am totally confused. The online store I was looking at has the Version 8 CS a bit cheaper than the Version 7..which only added to my confusion. Would Version 7 be better for a beginner? Any help would be appreciated. PhotoshopCS is version 8. In my opinion it is much better then version 7. I would argue that it's not an "essential" upgrade if you have version 7 but if you are to buy a new package then version 8 (CS) would be better. The Creative Suite wording is the way in which PS integrates with the other Adobe products. Primarily through a web based Java/Tomcat program called Version Cue. It allows for collaberative work on projects within work groups.

The only bad new thing about PSCS is that there's something that prevents the counterfiting of money using your inkjet.

Hi folks, After getting my Mac G5 and necessary software, I'm finally upgrading Photoshop to OSX (goodbye Classic!). Before I do - is a new version due in the next couple months? (What name follows CS?) It's not one of my main programs, so I don't get every upgrade and I'd hate to miss a new one. Or maybe a better price for CS in anticipation of it. Thanks!

I think the name for it will be funny we expected "Photoshop 8" and got "CS" Creative Suite , eventually 9 will come out. it's inevitable.
