The August challenge is open. This month's theme, thanks to weezie, is P4 Horse on a beach.

Since it is still the middle of summer, I was thinking of a beach scene. It can include any model, but it must use the P4 horse. No postwork, except to add a signature if wanted, and has to be rendered in Poser. -weezie

Ok, so, heads up folks, no postwork this time other than our signatures. That means we have to be creative if we are going to have the horse's shadows on the beach (if appropriate). So...

  1. You can certainly figure out a composition that does not require shadows.

  2. You can ignore the shadows.

  3. You can use the DAZ Environment beach set.

  4. You can use the FREE RuntimeDNA Infinity Cove set with a beach image on it.

  5. You can make a terrain in Bryce or some other app and import it with a flat backdrop.

  6. You can make your beach scene in Terragen and use that on the prop or backdrop.

  7. ... Your idea here.

So this is the place to ask questions. Remember, it must be rendered in Poser and must have a beach scene and the P4 horse in it. Any additional items are ok.

Hopefully I won't be too late for some folks to be able to use it. Then again, maybe some other folks already have a set made or would make one...

Hehe here's a beach. Free of course, and in free stuff here whenever it's approved. On my own Homepage NOW! Poser 5 procedurals included, and it's UVMapped so I think it's prety easy to use in P4 too. LEMOG has lots of sky- water and sandtextures for free ;o)

does the p4 horse have to be the focal point of the scene.say i have a beach scene i been working on and i wanted to enter the contest could i make a hood ornament out of the p4 horse for a truck on the beach is that allowed?

Does the P4 horse have to be a horse, can it be a donkey a mule or whatever? Or can it even be inanimate?

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Wed, 04 August 2004 at 2:45 PM

Maybe we could make an offer the judge couldn't refuse?

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Thu, 05 August 2004 at 1:47 AM

I hope I'm not stepping on any feet here, but my idea was to have a beach scene but with a twist of using the P4 horse. The more I thought about it, the more I realized the horse could be incorporated in many ways for this idea. I say be creative! The horse, IMHO, does not have to be the focal point but I'de like to hear what EricofSD says about that.

Kalypso, I chose the P4 horse because it comes in all versions of Poser and easily accessible to all :)

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 05 August 2004 at 1:48 AM

I'm sure the P4 horse does not have to be the focal point of the scene, but it does have to be in there. As for morphs of the P4 horse, let me see what wheezie has to say.

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Thu, 05 August 2004 at 1:53 AM

I think if we stick with just the P4 horse it will make it fair for everyone :)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Thu, 05 August 2004 at 4:30 AM

Hmm as long as the morphs/textures used are free and accessible for all, do we need to use that ugly horsie? As an example, Lyne has made a nice donkey based on the P4 horse, and it's free for all... I hope it's ok to use other textures?

I understand that weezie, my question was can we have the P4 horse but morphed into a donkey, etc. like ernyoka says. At Planit3D there is a great set for the P4 horse that Lyne has put together along with Bloodsong's mouth and lots of textures and morphs that make the horse really different from the default one. I was just wondering if that would be acceptable.

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Thu, 05 August 2004 at 10:26 AM

LoL ernyoka1, an ugly horsie is right...I would prefer to use the Mil Horse, but not everyone has that. The P4 horse can be morphed and any texture can be used. Sorry if I got anyone confused :)

EricofSD ( ) posted Sat, 07 August 2004 at 4:19 AM

The mil horse can be used as long as the P4 horse is in the scene. Remember, other characters are allowed.

I have a freebie beach texture for the Mill_env.

If anyone wants to go the fake HDRI route, drop me an IM, I have a set of lightcrosses that's never been near a photoshop action (a good thing, believe me ;-))

I never polished the files, so you may want to do some postwork on the water's edge and add some seaweed and dirt and stuff

Rockpack from my 3DA magazine freebie pack here:

Happy rendering :-)

Thank you spinner, that is a lovely beach scene and should come in handy for many people, myself included :)

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Sat, 07 August 2004 at 11:57 PM

Oops, my bad...ernyoka1 your beach scene is just as lovely so I say thanks for your contribution also! I'm sure many people will find it useful :)

Diaxus2 ( ) posted Sun, 08 August 2004 at 12:33 PM

OK great idea and i like the idea of No Postwork, but is pre work thats placed on flat squares, textured, trans'ed and placed inside the pre render ok, IE splashes around the hooves , or trailing manes and tails?

EricofSD ( ) posted Sun, 08 August 2004 at 1:34 PM

I would think that anything you do prior to render is fine. If you want to work the daylights out of an image and then use it for a backrop or bring it in as an image on a square prop, that should be OK. Once you go to render in Poser, that's it except for your signature. So if you don't like the render, you cannot use postwork to fix it. You'll have to go back to your layout and fix it there then render again until you are satisfied.
