Fire & Ice? (or just ice since it's December) -JH.

How about "Entering the New Millennium"? (You know since technically 2001 starts the new millennium.) Or maybe something a little more abstract like: "Where Two Millennia Meet". That can be good fodder for some nice fantasy depictions of time & space, etc.

Out with the old - In with the new (kinda overused I guess) Birth of a new religion - (since christianity has its birth celebrated in december maybe a new religion could be born then as well and religions, especially new ones, really get creative juices flowing for some reason) Millennia Juxtaposition (kinda following along with Anim8or's idea) The End of an Age (kinda overused probablly) Sorry, I'm bored to death burning cd's to make room for the new season of stuff I'm gonna download, so I'm just babbling :)

{Fire & Ice? (or just ice since it's December)} Depends on what part of the world you're in - there's an Australian song "It isn't Christmas without a Picnic on the Beach" for example... Maybe "Holidays around the World"?

Synesthetic ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2000 at 11:32 AM

Perhaps a non-sectarian approach to the December Holidays? In ancient times, the festival celebrated the rebirth of the light, ie, as of December 21, the longest day of the year, the daily hours of sunlight increase a little more every day. All northern hemisphere traditions, both ancient and modern, have some form of festival associated with this event. So how about "The Rebirth of the Light"? Or "Renaissance of Light", or something to that effect? It would go very nicely after "Heaven and Hell", too.

How about plain old Christmas?

kiru ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2000 at 2:55 PM

How about family/community? Each picture should show some kind of group celebration or feast, preferrably an indoor scene juxtaposing the warm inside and the cold outside

They're always doing that "Xmas in July" thing, Why not a "July in Xmas"? Victoria with goose bumps, "Now why did I wear a bikini to the ski slope? Just a thought. James

Rebirth of the individual.... Scarab

Dmentia ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2000 at 5:28 PM

oh I know...Oxymorons! to illustrate an oxymoron would be cool! wonder if I spelt that right? giggle

bloodsong ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2000 at 6:17 PM

heyas; how about something celestial, like 'solstice.' hmmm, maybe too specific. how about 'celestial balance'? (okay, that's more of an equinox kinda idea...) i'd also say 'solitude,' cuz that's what i want for christmas this year... but i expect everybody else wants parties and get-togethers and company and something less depressing. or how about paradoxes? those are fun! a northern-hemisphere snowman on a southern hemisphere beach... or the bikini on the ski slope. (or snowsuit on the beach? didn't think of that, didja?) even an oxymoron is kind of a paradoxical juxtaposition...

How bout just "The Spirit of the Season" I think that is broad enough to bring out some very varied art.

robert.sharkey ( ) posted Fri, 03 November 2000 at 9:40 PM

December==> "Brings childrens eyes to shine" I think a really challenge is to bring this ugly poser-childrens to life and let their eyes shine while the December brings snow, santa claus and christmas. SHARKEY

How about something like the "Ghost of Christmas Past" and everyone could contribute images of how they invision Christmas in their own past, or further back, like Christmas in the Middle Ages or something? Perhaps Dutch children getting their shoes filled with Christmas candy by Saint Nicholas?

visualkinetics ( ) posted Sat, 04 November 2000 at 12:15 AM

How about "It's All One." I notice this thread is pretty Christmas-centric because it's December. There are a lot of religious faiths in this world, but I think it all leads to the same place if you have Faith. So why not have images that reflect your Spirituality, be it whatever religion or non-religion you follow. It seems to be the right time of the year and the right time of the Millennium to reflect on that.

Before we go off asking if our ideas had any merit and claiming any gift, how do we know? Would it be easier for you to contact us? Just wondering. James

InDepth ( ) posted Sat, 04 November 2000 at 1:16 AM

James, I am compiling a list of all submitted themes and I will make a decision and announce the theme on the 25th. All of the themes offered in this thread so far are good ones. The only reason I added the caveat about "valid" themes only to keep someone from saying something like "Pepsi" and then asking for a GC. Hope this helps some, Eric

Scarab ( ) posted Sat, 04 November 2000 at 8:12 AM

No pepsi.....coke! cheeseburger !cheeseburger! chips! chips! Scarab <-(anyone remember that one?)

pdblake ( ) posted Sat, 04 November 2000 at 12:53 PM
