An ocean image rendered completely in Poser (except for the background island which was pre-rendered in Bryce). Thanks to Michael Janssen http://www.mitch3dseite.de for the excellent Humpback Whale model and to JeffH for turning me onto the tutorial on Poser's Wave Deformer feature. I had no idea Poser could create really nice ocean waves-with the ability to modify wave heights as needed. This is an incredibly cool and usefull feature if you are into water scenes. (And it is all a fully animatable effect...)

Wow, that looks great. Is it the altered pool prop again? -JH.

...A really big ocean, much deeper and wet" (sung to the tune of "John Henry- he was a steel drivin' man) Yes, actually its 16 "wave tiles" joined together. I modified the original from a single block in the Wave Deformer and then made this grid so that I could simulate a wide expanse of ocean (you can't just add the water and chrome effects as there is of course no way to control the map size in Poser-that I know of). But the advantage of the 16 tiles is that each is modifyable for various wave heights and creates a greater sense of space and distance. It would be nice for a large boat prop too. I see the Poser Ocean as like a large Hollywood "water tank" set where you can simulate ocean settings. Instead of exporting fixed characters out of Poser (to go into Bryce, etc.) you can do water scenes with Poser character, lighting and wave dials, with real-time adjustments, plus animate it.

I would never have known it was tiled, there are no seams showing at all.

I think that was "16 Tons" by, umm... Tennessee Ernie Ford (?) Anyway, above I made a comment about the Wave deformer, and I swear I didn't read this message first! NOW I see it's purpose! Great idea, and great picture, too-- thanks! Cheers, Mike

When you have a bodypart or prop selected go to the Menu>Object>Create Wave.

Actually, Tennessee Ernie Ford was a personality who was famous for singing "John Henry" (A Steel Drivin' Man)The song itself is much older than TEF and comes from the Gospel singing lexicon.("16 tiles... 16 tons, a play on words- goofy things that come into your mind at 2 A.M.) You can see the tile seams if I tilt the model up and look down on it, but the lower angle hides them. I could "tightening it up" but don't need to for my purpose. Also the tex maps line up correctly from tile to tile so you don't notice seams. Again I have to thank JeffH for turning me onto the Wave Deformer. I had simply never looked at it before but I had always been looking for a way to do this in Poser- and it was sitting right there! You can make some nice rolling waves and it creates the possibility of even surf waves. I have even theorized on "Transparency Mapped Surf Waves" for a Poser Gidget Goes Surfing idea...

Hey Fox, you did good! Like this a lot. I have messed a bit with the wave deformer but nothing like this. Really great! Rob

I would have thought 'John Henry' a song born of the Industrial Age. Maybe in the Gospel version, they were protesting ox-power. Nice technique, BTW.

JOHN HENRY (STEEL DRIVIN' MAN) When John Henry was just a little baby boy, No bigger than the palm of your hand, His mammy looked down at John Henry and said: My Johnny' be a steel drivin' man, Lord, Lord, My Johnny' be a steel drivin' man. John Henry said to the captain, "Captain, why don't you learn to swing. I'm drivin' forty nine pounds from my hip bottom down, Love to hear that cold steel ring, Lord, Lord, Love to hear that cold steel ring." John Henry had a pretty little woman, and her name was Polly Ann. John Henry took sick and had to go to bed, Polly drove steel like a man, Lord, Lord, Polly drove steel like a man. John Henry went up on a mountain, that steam hammer by his side, But he'd beat that drill through to the end of the line, When he laid down his hammer and he cried, Lord, Lord, He laid down his hammer and he cried. John Henry drove steel round that mountain, till the hammer put out fire. For that very last word I hear John Henry say, A cool glass of water I'm gonna die, Lord, Lord, A cool glass of water I'm gonna die. Well they buried John Henry in the graveyard, They lay him six feet under the sand, Every time a freight train go rollin' on by, They say yonder lies a steel drivin' man, Lord, Lord, Yonder lies a steel drivin' man.

SIXTEEN TONS Some people say a man is made out of mud A poor man's made out of muscle and blood Muscle and blood, skin and bones A mind that's weak and a back that's strong You load sixteen tons and what do you get Another year older and deeper in debt Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store. I was born one morning when the sun didn't shine I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal And the straw boss said: "Well bless my soul" I was born one morning it was drizzling rain Fightin' and trouble are my middle name I was raised in a cane brake by an ole mama lion Can't no high toned women make me walk the line. If you see me comin' better step aside A lot of men didn't and a lot of man died One fist of iron, the other of steel If the right one don't get you the left will.
