THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: I voted for the image, and look what happens !!!!!! :(

Kemal ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 3:33 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 7:08 AM

I'm pissed, big time !!! :(

This is my comment:

Very good texturing, indeed, I had better results blurring the image with distance mask thingie than with Bryce, it's soooo less demanding on rendering time, little bit more bumps and reflection on the sphere would make this very nice rendering even better (in my opinion)...Anyways, like I said, looks very good, and looking forward to see more from you, good luck !!!

And this is IM I got, I know i should not post IM's but, damn, I voted for this image !!!

Instant Message from (who the hell is this guy?): Thanks for your kind words, but in the future, if you have any criticisms about one of my images, please feel free to use the IM here. It always seems small and petty to critique someone's image in the comment line. Adding it is your opinion does not make it any less annoying. Unless, of course, you are small and petty, in which case, it doesn't matter.

BAH, RANT, sorry, I had to do this, AS, if you want me to delete this post, i will, immidiatelly, obvious example how nasty PPL can be !!! :)

Sambucus ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 4:11 PM

You voted for it?

KingHeroical ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 4:40 PM

The 'rules' for the comments section specifically states "Your helpful comments for improving this image:" You openned with compliments and provided some suggestions for improving the image based on experience. The person is obviously just fishing for compliments. I'd like to know who it is - maybe provide a few suggestions myself.

Rochr ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 4:43 PM

He will have to live with it. The ability to write comments are there for criticism in the first place. And what damage can it do, having an honest critique/pointer in the comment line anyway...?

Forget about him. You can't please some people with being honest. I wouldn't even say you gave criticism, but more suggestions. You made comments and suggestions on my latest and did I rant? No, I took your suggestions and updated the image. Some people can all too easily dish out criticism, but can't take it and that's just sad. Off now to hunt through the gallery to find the picture...

THe IM you got back is EXACTLY the reason this site is losing its credibility with me. Its already becoming like another 3d community on the www, where its such a mine field, that you have to walk so carefully with your crits, that the only comment you can leave without offending is "GREAT WORK!". Hell, its already gotten to where its rare to see a rating below EXCELLENT here. IMO your comment was very well put. I have gotten crits far stronger than that (I enjoy them btw). You had kid gloves on. People around here better grow some thicker skin. UGH!

Swade ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 5:41 PM

He is in the hot 20.... (Hint) Yep Kemal... He is just fishing for those Rave comments. It is just like KingHeroical and Rochr stated...it is one of the "rules" for the gallery comments. Just plain sad!

Hard to imagine that would've upset anyone... Lol, oh well what can ya do. I wouldn't care if someone told me my stuff was the worst they ever saw. (some of it probably is!) But then I don't take it seriously in the first place.

hmm..I've self-censored a bit, and in 2 years only had my hide taken off twice..;) I guess all that pent-up frustration can't be expressed in the OT..nah..leave it..;) I've seen worse than that..I wouldn't let it bother me any..if you put your pics up in a public place, and ask for public comments, you can expect the occasional zinger..

I'm trying to think of an analogy. How about this?... "If you don't want people to laugh, then don't take your clothes off."

I was able to figure out who it was you were talking about and I am surprised at the immaturity this artist showed when you offered a helpful suggestion. If you have a helpful suggestion or opinions on one of my pics please feel free, I appreciate it.

drawbridgep ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 6:08 PM

The other thing we should remember is that the artists on this site range from 8 to 80, so immaturity may just come from being immature. I also know the image in question and it's a fine image and Kemal gave a valid suggestion of an alternative, not even an improvement.

Don't let it bother you, Kemal. I guess you know whose work not to comment or vote on now? LOL...I am all for crits - giving or receiving. If anyone gives me a crit on my pics all the better. If you're so senstive to crits don't post your work!!

Ang25 ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 7:01 PM

Same here, I feel I need crits and I sometimes find it hard to get them. And I go asking!

Ang25 ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 7:03 PM

Oh Congrats Kemal! I was going to vote for that image when you put it in the gallery but I haven't gotten that far yet. :-D

Swade ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 7:16 PM

Yes.... Crits Are Cool!!!! Like Dan said.... don't hesitate to critique my work. I appreciate getting a good crit.

Crits are one of the best things at Renderosity. It's a great system but like most social interaction there has to be give and take.I accept criticism and often re-work an image for the better.I (perhaps incorrectly)assume other artists wish for my opinions.Unfortunately Kemal has found one of the few who can not admit to their own inadequacy. -er...? sounds like me!,come to think of it!!!

johnyf ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 7:35 PM

I welcome crits, and wish I received more - on the other hand, I have to say that I don't feel confident in giving them myself. I've been doing this now for barely 10 months and still have lots to learn!

'Rosity really needs to consider adding a checkbox for allowing constructive critiques...allowing for comments just doesn't cover it anymore. This is a prime example of why. I personally like getting helpful suggestions but I know people are afraid to give them. Which is why I try to encourage it by specifically asking. I'm guilty of holding back on critiques myself because the last thing I need is some angry 14-year-old snothead stalking me via IMs because I didn't kiss his ass in the comment section. Frankly, when I give critiques it's usually on images that are already pretty good. I figure a good artist is always looking to get even better and they generally don't need the ego-stroking anymore to know they're good anyway. Besides, maybe they'll return the favor and give good critiques when viewing my crap. :)

kiwi_gg ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 9:15 PM

To learn from my peers is why I signed up here. How can I determine my progress without good honest comments and critiques. I have said before "I've got a thick hide". If it will help me learn then "bring it on". How do these type of people get on at school when the teachers fail thier assignments,do they throw tantrums then too????? Mmmmm perhaps I won't post my latest WIP in case somebody hurts my itty bitty feelings. Cheers GG

Fatale ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2004 at 9:36 PM

hah! I once got someone who asked me to leave a constructive crit on his gallery image, and I did, he was happy, thanked me. But his friend wasnt happy, and said friend IM'd me to ask me to explain myself.. I was like, wtf? what'd I do? lol In my lil opinion, leaving a constructive crit takes more time than just saying "AWESOME! vote!", and I like the fact that someone actually cared about my work to leave me tips on how I can improve. (just insomniac and haunting the forums and babbling.. lol)

Did you get any IM's lately, Vasquez ??? Lol, I did !!! :)

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Tue, 10 August 2004 at 4:39 AM

Aye, I think you should say (type?) whatever you want, whenever you want. I only choose not to excessivel curse in my sentences because sometimes my mother looks at my artwork...! Also, communication works both ways. The other person should also be unafraid to voice his words, regardless of how inane they may seem to you. The key is to NOT walk on eggshells. Don't worry about it, let the anger flow through you and treat THAT person different in the future, but just because one person is dishonorable to you doesn't mean that you should lower yourself and be dishonorable to them, necessarily... That said, THE image is what should really count, not a PERSON'S image.

alvinylaya ( ) posted Tue, 10 August 2004 at 3:29 PM

You did good Kemal. Your comment on that pic couldn't be more polite and nice. It's hard to find honest but nice critiques these days. It IS possible to give critiques without shoving it up the person's @$$, but some people may feel that way anyhow ;-) It's incidents like these that make me avoid giving comments and especially critiques to strangers. I've had a few similar incidents and I just don't like the greif it creates, it's too time consuming, and stressful for me. These days I haven't been voting or ranking, maybe just looking and leaving a few comments on galleries of specific people, instead of going to the "What's New" section. Really takes the fun away! Sometimes when people specifically ask for critiques I offer some.

jedswindells ( ) posted Tue, 10 August 2004 at 7:14 PM

Time to put this thread to bed,we all have a choice on up-loading;comments or not?.Check comments and you will get what you deserve!.The option is yours, you get the truth,'cause you invited it ;or you opt for no comments. I choose to recieve comments, the operative word is CHOOSE! If you do not like constructive criticism then do not check the comments tab.

Gog ( ) posted Wed, 11 August 2004 at 4:32 AM

Personally, I welcome truly useful comments, one's that just say it's cr@p or needs more work don't help, but the ones that say how about modding this texture or lights etc are dead useful and I feel my art has improved since I joined here......
