Subject: Anyone know where to find a skeleton figure for poser?

Sephyn74 ( ) posted Wed, 11 August 2004 at 3:54 PM · edited Sun, 29 December 2024 at 4:53 AM

Anyone out there know where I might find a good/decent looking (poseable) skeleton figure for poser? (preferrably freebie) or a tutorial on how I could build my own? I'm sure someone out there somewhere has thought of this :D

Did you look in the Additional Figures section of the Poser Figures library? If that one is not detailed enough I believe DAZ has one in their store. Also I've got a low polygon one lying about somewhere.

No Additional Figures? Which version of Poser do you have?

gee, I didn't get any 'Additional' figures either, I only got the ones that came with Poser :? Anyone got an 'extra' cigarette? All my packs only got 20...

PhilC ( ) posted Wed, 11 August 2004 at 5:06 PM

Its possible that you just have a demo version. If that is the case you may find that upgrading will be money well spent.

The daz skeleton is a good one. I got it as part of the PC renewal package, and I really like it. It includes versions to fit bith the P3 and P4 people (the one that comes with Poser fits the P2 people).

currently i can't afford to upgrade anything. i have to borrow money for food at the present time. but as soon as i have steady $$ again i definately plan on upgrading everything, to include this ghetto 9000 pc i'm running on.

igohigh ( ) posted Wed, 11 August 2004 at 5:29 PM

martian_manhunter; What do you mean "It includes versions to fit bith the P3 and P4 people"?? I too got mine during one of those PC renewal deals but I can see is the basic figure and a spleen?? Was there separate CR2s or PZ2s? (gonna have to dig through my backups...)

did you actually look in Figures/Additional Figures? Even the Demos come with with a skeleton, stick man, etc...

I don't have the Daz skeleton installed right now, but from when I did, I seem to remember there being both P3 and P4 sized versions in the library >>Even the Demos come with with a skeleton, stick man, etc... << But it won't let you actually load them. In the demo you're stuck with just the default Guy.

that must be what i have then. except that i use to have judy. or, some female character (not sure if her name was judy). but she's gone now, for some reason. and now other files that require judy say she's not there. (so it has an oops face in place of the thumbnail pic in libraries). i have vickie 3 and mike 3, but no other figures. nope... :( makes me wonder what else i'm missing then...

I would suggest re-installing it then. If some of your figures have disappeared then re-installing will put them back.

if i had the setup files i'd do that, but someone else installed it on my computer over a year ago. so, no luck there. lol. as soon as i can afford it i will buy my own copy though. this program is addicting. kind'a like playing the sims only better. LOL. nm...

Well, actually that was illegal for them to do that (Poser's EULA does not allow giving someone else a copy, so technically what you have is considered Warez, which is illegal, and against Renderosity's TOS....) If you're lucky enough to live in a larger city some of the major bookstores carry certain British computer art magazines that sometimes include free copies of Poser 3 on the cover disk, though. Or if you keep a watch out on ebay you can sometimes get poser 4 or 5 at a really good price (but be careful ther because lately there have been pirated copies turning up on there).

hmm... well that's an iffy situation. i got this computer 2nd-hand. poser was already on it. along with a lot of other fully functioning programs. i didn't steal it. as an artist myself i don't condone warez. but if you buy a machine that already has programs installed are you suppose to delete all those programs because YOU didn't pay for them? that's illogical.

Yeah, technically you are expected to delete it. Most software's licensing also doen't allow it to be left on a computer when you get rid of it, and the person that buys the computer doesn't necessarily have the right to use any software that's left oon it (unless they also include the original medium and packaging, etc, and if required, transfer of ownership paperwork). Software companies as a matter of policy usually refuse to support it unless it's legitimately registered with them...
The only exception is the pre-installed software that came with the computer when it was new.

If the person you bought the computer from still has the original software and intends to use it on his/her computer than yes, it is illegal for you to keep them.

ok. fair enough. but then why are video stores allowed to rent out movies, or why are libraries allowed to loan cd's, cassettes and in some cases software?

The licensing rules are different for them. Most software companies specifically forbid that in their licensing agreements (and the law has agreed that they are within their rights to impose those kinds of limits).
Also, you should be aware that Renderosity officially also takes that position as do most of its members.

didn't know i was violating anything. at any rate, since my version of poser apparently doesn't have half the stuff everyone else's version has, i'm still using a demo. i have every intention of upgrading to a full version when i can afford it. in the meantime i have more pressing matters like passed due bills and if my car's going to be repo'd next week. sorry i asked about the skel figure. lol.

Yeah, the demo is severely limited. When you do get to where you can get the full version, it's definitely worth it.

Yeah if you have Judy, (or HAD Judy) you have Poser 5. And the only demo of Poser is the Poser 4 Pro Pack one. tough luck.

When I sold my older Mac, an 8500/150, to another artist I deleted all of the software and all of the models and all of the art files. He is also a professional as well as a friend and understood. What did I leave on? The upgraded operating system and a couple of free utilities (Corel's WordPerfect for Mac was free when they decided to stop supporting it). I then gave him all the boxes for the computer and the OS upgrade. Legal copies. My G4 has its own software, as do my PCs. My beasties are ancient and underpowered and I don't have all the models I want... but what I'm using is legal. The makers of these products and of the add-ons have rules about how they may be transferred. Those rules usually say only one office or only one user. For each program on that computer, you will need a legal copy. For each model which didn't come with the programs, you will need a legal copy. Carolly Poser Coordinator

Same here. I don't have a helluva lot, buth what I do have is paid for. I model with Rhino and an old academic copy of 3dsMax4 (which I don't use all that much because of the restriction on commercial use). I'd love to add Lightwave to my arsenal, but i don't have the money, so I'll just have to wait until I do... (I had to borrow money from my teenage daughter to buy my first copy of Poser4)...

For the economically challenged, some options are:

POV-Ray for rendering (free)
Terra Incognita for many free models (including lotsa skeletons and bony things)
3DWin4 for converting to/from Poser content (shareware, but very reasonably priced)
Wings 3D for modelling and adjusting models (free)

None of these tools are as flexible or as easy to use as Poser, but they make great add-ons for working with it. Yay! He segues back on topic at the last possible second, and the crowd goes wild... ;)

I tried to learn Wings3d, but I just couldn't get used to it.
