Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
Hmm I took a look at one of my props. Looks a little bit different:
{
version
{
number 4.01
}
prop Lasagna
{
storageoffset 0 0 0
objFileGeom 0 0 :Runtime:Geometries:TrekkieGrrrl:Lasagna.obj
}
prop Lasagna
{
name Lasagna
on
bend 1
dynamicsLock 1
hidden 0
addToMenu 1
castsShadow 1
includeInDepthCue 1
parent UNIVERSE
channels
{
groups
{
groupNode Transform
(and on and on and on..............) Make sure the spelling and casing is correct. Banner.obj and banner.obj is NOT the same file as far as Poser is concerned.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Hmm I guess I should add that this prop is made in Poser 5 and the external call is made with obj ripper, which is part of PWizard.

Hi Lisbeth, Thanks for replying to my message. I'm still having problems though. I copied one Prop file that I know works OK exactly but I just changed the parts were I needed to call in the obj file, but when I go to load it in Poser nothing happens, or so it seems. But when I open up the Hierachy Editor it's there, but you can't actually see it on the stage and it's not listed in the Props list. When I double click on it, when the the Heirachy Editor is open, I open up a Properties box, but as soon as I click off the prop it's gone. I'm going to try and create this prop as a figure and call the geometry in the cr2 file and see if the same thing happens. By the way how do you create a pp2 file after importing into Poser so that the obj file is called externally. Whenever I do it directly in Poser the geometry is always included in the pp2. You mentioned obj ripper and PWizard but I've not heard of these. Thanks

I still think it sounds like a typo in the PP2 somewhere, if it loads with an invisible obj. Double check it :o) PWizard, by Kattman is available here in the Marketplace, it is a utility that consists of several smaller apps, one of them is obj ripper. Very handy, you let Poser create the pp2, then take it thru obj ripper and it spits out the obj and a pp2 with an external call :o) I couldn't live without it G Yes, Poser makes props with embedded geometry. One little trick is to open the grouping tool, I'm not even sure it needs to do anything but on numerous occasions, Poser has then made me a new obj in the Props folder (same place where the PP2 is)... I've never tried it AS a "ripper" but it may just work....

Hi all, I'm having real difficulties with a prop I've just put together in 3DS MAX and setting up the file in Poser. I want to call the external geometry in my Geometries folder rather than have it embedded in the pp2 file. Is there anything I need to be aware of when doing this? I replaced the geometry in the pp2 file with this: prop Banner Bracket:1 { storageOffset 0 0.3487 0 objFileGeom 0 0 :Runtime:Geometries:Predatron3DA:banner.obj } Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks. Cheers Steve
