I think.. I'd say that the last living thing is the human who lit that lantern =). Or is that a bird house. Anyway, I think that the image could use a bit more... maybe make the explosions closer to the tree, add some volumetric fog/smoke, a tilted perspective and some high contrast lighting, then you'd have something dramating / amazing.

Birdhouse in honor to my sister. Hurricane Charley just blew thru here and tore a tree from our yard. We found the tree a block away, and the birdhouse was still attached to it. Cheers.........
