Subject: Ok. Now I'm confused.

Tunesy ( ) posted Tue, 17 August 2004 at 7:45 PM · edited Sun, 28 July 2024 at 3:29 PM

A very talented vendor recently gave the following reply in a thread about clothing for The Girl:

" Oh, let me quickly take back what I said above - I just checked the copy of my set that DAZ distributes, and unlike what I submitted, all the clothing is set so everything is Figure 1, and :1, including the FBM and JCM links.

So it will not work correctly in Poser 5..."

In other words, the way he submitted his product to DAZ it would have worked fine in P5 sr4 if I understand him correctly. DAZ changed it without even consulting him. My question then is, why did DAZ change those settings so that it doesn't work properly in P5? Was it necessary for another reason? I feel bad because I just returned two different clothing packs for The Girl from other vendors and I'm wondering if maybe DAZ created the same problem for them.

I don't think Daz supports P5 at all.

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Yes. I know. But I'd still like to know the answer to the question.

So would I... ;-) Bear in mind the fix I'm suggesting (and the other, "editing the CR2 fix" that has been suggested) AND the way that is generally suggested as the "correct" way still has problems in P5- only the first-loaded figure will operate clothing that is conformed to it correctly, a second figure in the scene will have problems, DAZ's intended (I think) system where you copy the figure's pose (you can use one of those dots I never bother with) and apply it to the clothing is going to be better if there is two figures. P4/PP also have trouble with the second figure, BTW, the Null doesn't seem to work with JCM...

Yes, but..."why did DAZ change those settings so that it doesn't work properly in P5? Was it necessary for another reason?"

I gather that's their standard. They will reject products that don't conform to it, or change them so they do. I assume they think their standard is somehow better for P4/PP users. So far as I know, they've been doing it that way since before P5 existed.

I'll ask DAZ. I still want to know the answers. If there is valid reason, then great. I'll cheer em on. But, if all they're doing is trying to jam DS down our throats by preventing some of their product from working with P5 then I won't do business with them. It's irritating to buy and have to return a product only to find out that it would have worked fine had they not changed it. But, in all fairness to them, maybe they have a valid reason. I'll wait for their answer.

please let us know what they say...thanks!

All right Tunesy. :) Someone has to put their foot down for us DAZ and P5 users. I like to know to. Since I purchased P5, I only bought two items due to DAZ problems in P5. No support/Fixes for their products in P5. I never realized of this problem until after I purchased P5 and started to see these DAZ bugs. Dunno why their isn't a character else where instead of using DAZ's products like Victoria or Micheal. Will not be loss to them if they lose Poser costomers and using P5. Because now they have new products of their own.

I'm really confused now. I've got P5 and haven't had any problems with any daz stuff. I've got Girl and the original clothing pack and haven't had problems with it at all. I'll have to post my first girl image when I get done with it (only get to work on it an hour or so a night). Kristta

Tunesy ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 11:38 AM

The original clothing pack seems to be ok with P5. The catsuit and most of the other clothing isn't. That's not really the point, though. The point is: why did daz change the original artists files, which were fine for P5, so that they would be deficient in P5?

Kristta ( ) posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 1:40 PM

Can the items be set back to "normal" if you contact the vendors and ask for their help? After all, they did make the products and did get money for them. Kristta

I don't know. Maybe. Personally, I only want to buy items that don't require 'fixes'. I know a lot of people buy items that they know they'll have to 'fix' and they accept it...whatever suits ones fancy. Poser is an occassional thing for me. It's a drag coming back a month after you bought a product and having to say to yourself, "Now, let me see. What did I do last time to make this item work right." Multiply that by a bunch of items and you get a lotta brain clutter. Again, it's not the 'fix' thing that bothers me. That's not the point. I'd like daz to answer the question: 'why did daz change the original artists files, which were apparently fine for P5, so that they would be deficient in P5?'

my response to this was eaten... flaky computer... probably a good thing, though

Jim Burton ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 12:14 PM

Hey Tunesy!- Did the change I sent you work? I don't do all that much P5 stuff myself, I just wanted to confirm what I thought would work... ;-)

Tunesy ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 12:23 PM

Hi, Jim. Thanks very much for the help :) I haven't tried yet. Haven't had much time for Poser the last few days. I'll try this weekend. Thanks again.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 6:12 PM

O.K., I know how it is, ;-) just let me know one way or another. If it works O.K. I want to talk to DAZ about making it generally available.
