I think all of us have been pinched at one time or another by not putting the checkmark in the box to allow light through transparent objects in Carrara's render properties screen. www.shonner.com

No, its not the light through transparency option. I do have the same problems when importing "CoolCoils" to Carrara. There is always something like a glowing "aura" around the the coils. The only solution for me was to avoid transparency for the coils which might not be a solution for other hairstyles. In general Carrara is a nice program but sometimes there are so many difficulties and bugs for the money I payed that it is really not funny anymore.

It sounds like you've got too much color in the transparent spots. In Carrara if color + transparency + reflection > 100% then the object will appear to glow. Typically what you'd do is have a transparency map in that channel and then multiply the color channel by the inverse of the transparency map. If you need something more specific (like a screen shot), let me know. Regards, Eric Winemiller Digital Carvers Guild 3D plug-ins for Carrara http://digitalcarversguild.com

Marks reference is a little more complicated than I think it needs to be, here's another:
There is a transparency map in the Transparency channel. In the color channel, that same map with the Invert Color option checked is used to multiply the existing color. This will zero the color in the transparent areas and make sure that color + transparency is not greater than 100%.
Good luck,

Yeah, that wasn't the one I really wanted- I was looking for this butterfly one. The problem with not using the single channel and affecting ALL channels of the multi-channel mixer is that you can get highlights hanging in space. Although this is actually not really addressing the glow issue. . . oh well. MarkdTokken18, It will work out. Carrara can be a bit ambiguous in its settings. Thank goodness for screen captures from other users to help us. www.shonner.com

I have a problem that i hope is just something i'm overlooking or just don't understand and not a glitch in the program. Okay, i imported a poser figure (V3) into Carrara 3 via a wavefront OBJ and i am applying the transparent textures, and when i do it to the hair, it doesnt quite work right. I have the Sassy hair 2.0 on her and where the hair should be transparent, it sort of glows... i dont know why. All the other things are turned off ( i.e. the highlight channel and bump and shininess and what have you) all that is left on is the Transparency and color layer (which has the texture on it). If anyone knows why it isn't fully transparent, please enlighten me. Oh yes, i also made sure if i had to have it inverted or not, and i do, yet the glowing still persists. Thanks again if anyone knows the answer to this.
