Just did a quick test to see what my result would be on my p4, it's interesting, even though you have double the ram and a little more in the processor speed in your p4 mine only came out a little over a minute longer than yours.

nanotyrannus, apparently the WaterGate scene does not use a lot of ram so it is logical that there is no difference between 512 MB and 1 GB. One must also make sure that the same build (270996) of Vue 4 Pro is used, sometimes there are differences in render times between builds. Now it would be interesting to see some results on PowerMacs and Athlon 64 / Opteron.

If you pay close attention to these figures, it shows that Vue is having a hard time with Pentiums. Notice louguet's times between the 3 gig P4 and the XP 2400. That's just way too close for machines with such differences. louguet, if you have a chance, can you post your chipset and bus/ram speeds for you XP 2400 and 3 gig P4? Does anyone have an XP 3200 machine running on a 400 meg dual channel buss? I bet any amount of money that system would eat the 3 gig P4. There's just something that's not right with Vue and the P4 systems. What's not certain is whether it's a CPU issue, a chipset issue, or both. I should add that all the other software I've tested so far show significant speed gains on my 3.2 gig Prescott system with 2 gigs of ram, as of course they should.
Vue has always been faster on AMD than on Intel. It uses raw floating-point calculations that are more efficiently handled by the Athlon XP architecture. With Vue 4 Pro, hyperthreading helps, but still the P4 is not terribly impressive.
As for my XP2400, it has nothing out of the ordinary : 2 Ghz, Epox EP-8RGA+ motherboard, NVidia nForce 2 IGP chipset, FSB 266 (2x133), 512 MB of CAS2.5 memory (2.5-3-3-6 timings).
I re-ran the benchmark today on an overclocked - but perfectly stable - 2.4Ghz P4C (the famous M0 stepping) running at 3300 Mhz, with Abit IC7-Max 3 motherboard, i875P chipset, FSB 1100 Mhz (4x275), 220 Mhz memory bus (5:4 ratio) with 1 GB of CAS2 Corsair XMS3500 (2-3-2-5 timings). Vue4 Pro bench : 21 mn 03 s, so about the same as a Dual Athlon MP1800+ (2 x 1533 Mhz).
Now I am curious about the results on an Athlon 64.
i want to see the mac benchmarks they call them power pc's right, see if they live up to that expectation lol.

Everything else I've tested smokes my Athlon system, as I expected it to. As I said elsewhere, I wouldn't be surprised if an XP 3200 with a 400 FSB eats my P4 Vue times. The bottom line is that if Vue is you primary modeler, then stay FAR away from Pentiums.

I have tested Vue 4 Pro with a lot of PC configurations. I use the "WaterGate" scene from P.Merminod (it uses only standard elements, no add-on plants). Here are some results with Vue 4 Pro 4.54-02, build 270996. Render settings : final, render to screen, 1024 x 611, 72 DPI. All PC run Windows XP Pro. Athlon XP 1800+, 768 MB : 36 mn 25 Athlon XP 2400+, 512 MB : 28 mn 08 Dual Athlon MP 1800+, 512 MB : 21 mn 20 Pentium 4-3300 Mhz, 1 GB : 22 mn 20 Dual Xeon 2800 Mhz, 1 GB : 14 mn 00 10-CPUs renderfarm : 4 mn 30 (1 Dual Xeon 2800 + 2 x Pentium 4-3300 + 1 Dual Athlon MP1800 + 1 x Athlon XP2400 + 2 x Athlon XP1800 + 1 x Duron 1667 Mhz). Hyperthreading is very helpful for Vue 4 Pro.
