Just curious, why do you advertise here but you don't sell here? Marque

MallenLane ( ) posted Tue, 07 November 2000 at 9:01 PM

I let people know where to find it, because they use Poser and gather here. If no one knows where it is, it does them no good, and does me no good. I mean no slight on Renderosity, but during the time I was shopping around for a place to sell, they never approached me. BBay did. So I went there. Also, advertising here is not a new thing. Many people from BBay and other places advertise here.

Not slammin you for it, just curious. 8^) Marque

Sorry, didn't mean to sound defensive if I came across that way. Its just been a pretty hectic last few days. =) ML

No offense, but I was going to order the hair ... but then I read BBay's FAQ and realized how many hoops you had to jump through (almost as many as for Al Gore's tax credit) to actually PAY to get something from them! Not to mention you can't just download your order right away, like you can with most normal online software purchases, like at Renderosity for instance. (Correct me if I'm wrong here.) This is a "I paid for it, I want it now!" society, and on-line stores that don't offer this are going to soon find themselves vanishing from the face of the web. I think you should SERIOUSLY consider switching to Renderosity, or Broker over at Zygote ... but BBay is ridiculous. I really think you're hurting your sales. This is one sale that is not going to happen as a result of it being on BBay. Why couldn't you sell at both ... do they have a restriction in your contract on that too? Sorry ... I'd LOVE to get your hair, but I'm never going to support a ludicrous operation like BBay. -Tim

Those are beautiful but I have to agree with Tim. I've bought a considerable amount of stuff lately -- came into a mildly hefty windfall -- but when I saw "all the hoops" at BBay I skipped them too. I'm sure they're fine people, but still..... Just my $2.00. (Inflation you know) Larry F

Hair looks good ... And Ihave never had to wait for more than a couple of minutes when I have bought anything from BBay ..

Balaan ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 8:57 AM

same here ghost, I never had any problems waiting at BBay. And i never had any problems downloading their stuff. especially when they give more then a hour to download what you bought :o)

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 11:20 AM

Actually I have bought a LOT of stuff at BBay, and it is a pain in the butt to set up the paypal, which is how I pay for my stuff. But I have had two problems that were taken care of IMMEDIATELY, one of them being I ordered the wrong item and they let me delete it and order the correct one. I own just about everything here and at Zygote, and no loyalty expressed, just business, this site is the fastest, Zygote being next in line on speed. BBay has you pay a $15 membership fee, but I have gotten more than that in the freebies they send out each week. All three stores are great but usually I look here, then Zygote, then BBay, and I'm also looking at 3D Commune. Don't show this to my husband....lol Marque

pendarian ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 2:09 PM

You have to pay $15 before you can buy anything?? That is ridiculous, I don't care how many freaking free items they have to give you. At least the other communities have free for free..if that is the only way they can support themselves then I think they better take another look at their business plan. I'm glad I found this out before I went over there to look at your hair..which by the way is most excellent, but sorry I'm not going to pay a merchant in order to browse their store. My $2 worth

timoteo1 ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 2:40 PM

Definetly great hair, and it's killing me not to buy it. Yes ... I had forgotten to mention the $15 fee ... this is BEFORE you can even BROWSE their catalog! What a crock. Ghost: Well that's great that you never had to wait, but I'll bet you were ordering during normal business hours, right? Some of us don't or can not order during normal business hours. What's the point of having on-line ordering if it can't handle orders 24/7 ... THAT is the point of having a web-based business. Again, this site won't be around much longer. In fact, as a successful entrepeneur it's tempting to create my own 3D sales site just to show them how its done and then wipe them off the face of the web. Not to be mean, just to teach them a lesson about how idiotic their business model is setup. Although, I think Renderosity is doing a pretty darn good job already, so maybe they'll do it for me. -Tim

timoteo1 ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 2:42 PM

PS> Again, can you not sell this hair on Renderosity as well because of a contractual conflict?

MallenLane ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 2:55 PM

I am currently weighing options. Its not impossible for me to sell it here, it would however alter my vendor relationship with BBay. I'm not sure that is warrented yet. However, I am concerned that sales are being lost due to customers being unsatisfied with the process. ML

timoteo1 ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 3:43 PM

Obviously you know how I feel on the matter. But honestly, since it is NOT a contractual obligation, I would not worry about your "vendor relationship" with BBay. For one, if they are professionals, it shouldn't effect your relationship at all. (What if WalMart got ticked at Warner Brothers for selling their DVDs at Kmart too?) Secondly, even if it did I don't think it would be a big loss, especially given their business attitude. -Tim

timoteo1 ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 3:45 PM

PS> Here are at least two sales you are losing as a result of BBay. Put you item on Renderosity and your guaranteed two immediate sales. Not to mention the fact that not everyone reads these posts on Renderosity. And of those that do, not all may read your post about the hair. So now you're left with a fairly small percentage of people that even know you have hair for sale. I willing to bet a LOT more people check the Renderosity Store more often than they do the postings. Anybody else think differently? -Tim

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 08 November 2000 at 6:46 PM

Actually it was recently on a sunday at 6 in the morning or so I think. The time before that was Saturday at around 2 in the afternoon. And you don't HVAE to pay the 15 bucks. They say it will be cool since you get a ton of free stuff and get deals on items and advance things but you don't have to. I still haven't. That being said it is still cool hair. I don't want to try to say they are great but I have never had any problems with them and they have always been quick. Later

timoteo1 ( ) posted Thu, 09 November 2000 at 3:03 AM

Ghost: Okay, that's a little better. Thanks for the clarification. However, I still think (obviously) that ML would increase sales by offering it here on Renderosity. But again, thanks for the info. Take care, Tim

timoteo1 ( ) posted Thu, 09 November 2000 at 3:29 AM

I actually changed my mind and thought I would consider it supporting the artist and not BBay. I even have exactly $20 in my PayPal account so I THOUGHT this would be easy. Unfortunately I soon discovered -- after filling out the membership form and trying to place an order --- they have to approve your membership before you order or even browse!! What a total crock! Sorry DL, this is just too much for me. Would you consider (assuming you have a PayPal account) selling to me directly?? -Tim

MallenLane ( ) posted Thu, 09 November 2000 at 3:54 AM

No, unfotunately I do not have a paypal account to sell it directly. I am sorry you are having so much trouble. I would assume that distribution through Zygote is a venue everyone finds acceptable? ML

timoteo1 ( ) posted Thu, 09 November 2000 at 4:01 AM

I would think Renderosity would be the easiest and probably the best value for the Poser Community as Zygote would take longer and probably add to the cost. You might want to consider doing both though and starting out with Renderosity. Thanks for your concern. -Tim
