Looks pretty sweet. The manual is available for download from the product page (see link) as well. Anyone bought it yet? IF so, what do you think?

A little bummed about the upgrade price for Pro users though. Oh well ...

I almost purchased the Pro 2 a couple of days ago. From what I understand, the upgrade for 3 is 30% off for Platinum Club members

timoteo1 ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 7:38 AM

Yep. Basically it's $49 for Plat.Club upgraders.

and 69.99 for full version for plat. club members

That's pretty damn steep. I'm not sure the improvements are worth it.

Smoovie ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 8:57 AM

If I had Pro 2, I would stand pat until Pro 3 is released. But, Pro 2 cost more than Mimic 3, Mimic 3 is an upgrade from Pro 2 and I don't have anything. So, I'll play that $70 for 3 now.

There is not going the be a "Pro" 3 ... this version IS the PRO version. They decided to drop the non-PRO version. -Tim

I'd be interested in seeing some animations done with it. Anything to make it easier! Marque

Now I may be missing something here... but mostly the improvements seem pretty cosmetic. I'm not interested in all the fancy preview options and the rendering feature and it's associated lighting and camera features, so for me I just have to wonder if there's anything here to make me pay an extra $50 or so bucks to upgrade from M2 pro.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 11:48 AM

Some nice new features listed. real time preview of animations if kinda cool. no word on Lightwave Mimic 3, or a price upgrade path that way. Those of us that use poser and lightwave have a hard decision I guess. I do not think that the upgrade is worth the price so I'll just use what I got. The Girl head freebie is disturbing ewww.

iamonk ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 1:14 PM

I have Mimic 2 Pro already. There doesn't seem to be anything more in Mimic 3 that isn't "frosting". The fact that Mimic 2 Pro users and Mimic 2 users pay the same for the upgrade is disturbing, but that's life.

timoteo1 ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 4:47 PM

Yeah, I really think they need to patch Mimic 2 Pro with the same bug fixes. Like the windows not staying in place after starting Mimic again. We shouldn't have to pay another $50 in less than a year for something as simple that ... something that is standard on all other software.

You have to wonder when there is no reference to improved accuracy and no animation demo. I would need to get access to a demo for Poser before I ever considered buying this product.

I would need to get access to a demo for Poser before I ever considered buying this product. There is a 30 day fully functional demo available (with deposit). ok, so they call it a 30 day money back guarantee but it works out the same.

I'm happy to report that, being DAZ (that is, a highly customer service and rapid response type company), they are now offering a discount and incentive to PRO owners.

Also, they have posted videos within the DAZ forums. I'm sure some of them will make their way on to the product page soon.

I too was hoping for some mention of improved algorithims, etc., but Josh Darling (who worked on the project) said a lot is not included in the manual or on the product spec page. I'll have to ask him if there was an optimization of the code.
