THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

I'm no chicken! The reason I haven't replied is because I was out of the country for 24hrs, picking up my grandchildren for their summer break in Wales. I've already said OK to the Crystal Palace pic on that other thread. So, my challenge to you is this..... Instead of you and me doing the September 'Mystery' challenge, we'll go head to head on a render of the Crystal Palace as posted. You do it in Wings3d and I'll do it in Bryce. I'll use Boolean operations as I deem necessary. (The nature of the pic obviously demands booleans anyway) Both pieces to be rendered in Bryce. You get to import your work into Bryce (Obviously, but just to clarify things for the intellectually challenged.) I don't get to import anything other than plants. The structure of the Crystal Palace is what we are looking for here. Page size no greater than 800 x 600. No postwork at all. No posting of WIPs. Deadline to be 30th September 2004.(Midnight GMT) We must both post our finals on that day or forfeit the challenge. Finally, we agree to let the good members of the Bryce Forum vote on the winner. Agent Smith gets to be the umpire if he would be gracious enough to agree. All the above is negotiable. AS is hereby requested to approve that the final form of the challenge is fair and sets the start date. What say you, Oh Un-dead One?

WOW! to do that all in Bryce?????????? I love the idea! I wish you all the best!

TwistedBolt ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 7:38 PM

those statues look easier to do as a hightmapped terrain, and the building could be done with cubes and lattices. The statue will most likely present the biggest problem to both sides. If drac can model those in wings......hats off.

Actually, Paul, Bryster said "no posting of wips". (But I'd like to see some, too)

Hmmm...this is gonna be a fun competition between a crazy foreign vampire with his wings and an obvious master of his medium... I look forward to it..but no wips? That makes me a little sad. Oh, how i would enjoy posting of say...weekly WIPs, that way us forum-goers could see the progress of the two duelists. Or maybe a set of progress WIPs must be posted after the challenge is completed. Either way, i'd love to see how each pic progresses.

Ardiva ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 10:45 PM

I like the idea of no WIPs for the very reason that when they both turn in their work, it will be a total suprise for us all. Adds to the excitement if you ask me. Anyways...I'm looking forward to the end of September, and you can bet I'm keeping close tabs on this challenge. smile

Yeah,c'mon The Bryster, without WIPs it would be like watching Le Mans, or the Indy 500, but you only got to see the start and the finish of the race, so no real drama.

Ardiva ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 12:26 AM

"No real drama"?? Can you just imagine the 'drama' of anticipation? The 'drama' of not knowing what's going on behind the scenes and we can only speculate? The 'drama' of postings here as this challege progresses in time? There's probably more 'drama's' that I can't think of at this time as it's late and my head is filling up with visions of my soft bed and a late TV program that I'll no doubt not be able to finish watching! lol Well, anyways, that's drama enough for me. I can wait and get all excited at the same time. grin

This is excellent! This is better than an olympic event.

Quest ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 1:00 AM

Oh man! I havent been keeping up lately with all the going-ons around here and I dont yet realize what sparked the challenge but a challenge indeed it is. A challenge from which at the end, we can all learn from, this is exciting. I would have to agree with Ardiva in that WIP would give away some of your artistic strategy or tip the hat as they say and have your opponent second-guess his work in perspective to yours. But this too can be used to outfox your opponent but it requires more work on your behalf to achieve the cloak of misinformation. I think that would be too much work to ask of these two generous members. I feel that although this challenge is doable in many ways, it is much harder and more time consuming being done entirely in the Bryce platform, such has been my experience and given enough time there should be no reason for it not to be accomplished. My hats off to both combatants right from the start and Im looking forward to both finished images with equal interest. Good luck to both artists!

Well, thanks to you all for your input and interest! I've formally requested that AS preside over this to ensure fair-play. (I'm sure we don't want things to get out of hand here) OK. couple of things. #1 WIPs are optional. As has been said above, wips add to the drama, but can also be used to out-phsyc the opponant. I don't have a prob with that. #2 In unlikely event of a tie, AS has the deciding vote. KIWI gg: More than once, mate! I got drunk more times than I care to remember. Johnnyf: I'm not Welsh! TJohn: Yup! You spotted it. The tat sez 'EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER' - give me a break here, I had it done when I was Drac's age. Marko: Thanks for that! OMG I look old....LOL BTW, I don't see this as a boxing match, Orbital! I see this more as the Jedi Knight vs The Young Padawan. I now await AS's input and the dropping of the hankerchief!

Dude!!!! ELP!!!! (Waves lighter about.) Big fan here, too. I've got "Lucky Man" and some others like "Jerusalem" on my 20 meg portable mp3 player. No tattoos, though. Your reply reminds me of a Simpson's episode where Homer is trying to convince his son that he was cool back in the day. He says, "Check out this tattoo" and shows it off. It reads "Starland Vocal Band" (if you don't recall, their one hit was "Afternoon Delight") Homer reads it out loud, "Starland Vocal Band? They suck!" :^D

ROFLMAO! This is hysterically funny and what keeps me coming back here, a nice friendly match. Drac, Yoda indeed...LOL. Bryster if the youngen gets too antsy, just flick him once with the fly swatter...LOL. Which one of the ladies is going to be parading the round card? ;D)

Ang25 ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 6:49 AM

Quest-Are you trying to bait me? LOL, I don't have a heavy chest, so I don't think I qualify for any role in this matter. Ang (Always the spectator) :/

drawbridgep ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 7:47 AM

Well, I'm not going to pick a side either. I'll just cheer both on. But I will be wearing my Detroit Tigers cap and the fact it has a D on it is pure coincidence.

LOL...it's okay Ang, the heavy chested comment wasn't made by me, I believe that's Kimpe's department and hes talking about the prize girl, but not to worry. If you want to be the round card girl, and if youre not comfortable, you can parade around holding the round card in front of you at chest level. What is important is that you shake your booty from side to side in exaggerated gyrations as you walk, that usually gets all the hoots in the house going. Ahhhyou do have booty, dont you? If not, we can fix that too without surgery. ;) Not to make a social commentary here, I just prefer that some funky looking, tacky, leathered drag-queen with a mustache and five oclock shadow with a biker hat on and a small round card attached to his crotch NOT be parading about making a mockery of the whole thing, although Im sure there are those that go in for that type of stuff. And I can just hear the ladies saying: How about some hunky, round card-carrying guy parading about? Sorry, I called it first. :P
