lol..pogmahone..u ought to drop in here some time.. cows wander around the city like human beings..they drop in at a veggie stall.. eat what they want..and very few pple shoo them away. Strangly..that article doesn't really tell you the truth of why cows became sacred. The real reason..not that many brahmins will agree to it..is that long long time ago..way long ago.. HIndus ate beef. They ate quite a bit, and then...since animal husbandry wasn't really in existence then..there was a shortage of milk, which lead to a shortage nor dairy stuff. The Brahmins hence decided that the only way they could get the supply of milk to increase was to declare that cows were sacred and that pple shouldn't eat them. Voila... that stuck. And that bit about the cow dung? Common out here.. see slum dwellers, and villagers use it. One of the funniest sights me saw was about three weeks ago.. was raining cats and dogs. Was walking along the main shopping street. Couple of cows were taking shelter under the eaves of a few buildings. One had it's head stuck in a store, the rest of itself out!! Oh..you still need a pix of cows? Let me know.. think I have one scanned in.. will send it to you.
Me stoopid......it took me ages to figure it out rotfl I really like the sound of India - apart from the heat (freckles, need I say more!!). I've got no interest in religion, but IF I was going to be anything it would be Buddhist or Hindu, since they gel with my outlook on life :o)

Googling for images/models of a cow (don't ask :o( ) this pic piqued my interest, as I didn't know cows had horns growing out of their asses lol. Anyhoo, followed the link, and I thought the article was absolutely fascinating.
