Subject: A few questions for Poser5

Shaddex ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 4:30 AM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 1:09 PM

For Poser5 1. How do you apply a background in poser? And ground/water? I herd others doing it but cant find anyway to do it myself. All I can get it to use is a soled color for the background. I had a nice Sean set up but couldnt get the background image or any sort of ground to display. 2. How do you directly edit a model? Like making something longer, shorter, thinner wider, adding spikes and new moveable sections. With out using the scale and distorting other parts of the model? 3. How on earth do you add a skin to a model that dont have a skin to start with? I have a few models that didnt come with skins, but found some that were made for them. But when I add the skin, it dont display on the model.. Yet if I do it to the default models that come with poser 5 the skins load and display fine. 4. How do you make a smart prop? I have a prop I made and would like to turn it into a smart prop, but have no idea how to do such. Thanx in advance.

1. You can either import the background picture directly by going to File>Import>Background Picture, or you can set it up in the material room. Pull down the selector to show "Background" and run a 2D image map to the "Color" node, as shown in the attached pic. The same principle applies to the ground plane, but you must first go to Display menu and turn on "Show Ground Plane". Then you will find it in the material room under "Props" section. 4. For a smart prop, simply load your obj or existing prop and parent it to the appropriate figure (e.g. parent a sword to Vicky's right hand.) Go to the Props library and press "+" to save the prop. It will say "This prop has a parent, do you want to save as a smart prop?" Click yes. Sorry I cant answer the other two!

  1. To make wider, thinner, longer, shorter Use scale, xScale, yScale and zScale parameter dials . For local scales, the scale channel descriptions in the pp2 or cr2 should be "scale", while for propagating scales they should be "propagatingScale" . Note - Local scales have scale extents that can be edited in the joint parameters in Poser . Note - Taper channels can be added for figures and props in the PP2 or CR2 - these are described as "taperX", "taperY" and "taperZ" . 2. To Add Spikes in Poser 5 Load a prop in Poser 5 . Convert into a hair prop by applying hair dynamics in the Hair Room and adjusting the hair parameters . For best results, the prop should be a uniform mesh, ie all triangles or all quads of roughly equal size . See Poser 5 Help for details 2. To Add Moveable Sections The base model must be a figure and not a prop . Parent the prop sections to the base figure - for each prop, go to Object>Change Parent... and set the parent . Save the props in the prop library - use the "select subset" option, select all the parented props and save as "smart prop" . Load the props from the library onto a plain base figure . This creates a "smart propped figure" . Save the figure into the figures library . You now have a library figure with additional moveable sections . Note - to create a base figure, convert a prop into a base figure in the SetUp Room . See Poser 5 Help for details . 3. A model must have a UV mapping to use skins, aka texture maps . Software required to edit UV Maps in OBJ models (A Must Have) is - Steve Cox's UV Mapper available at ... http://www.uvmapper.com/ When a new model is first accessed in the Geometry subdirectory in Poser : In Windows, a new rsr file is created . In Mac, a rsr fork is created . Note - the geometry information is accessed from the rsr file/fork and not the obj file . To replace an existing OBJ model in Poser : In Windows, replace the obj file and delete the rsr file . In Mac, replace the obj file - the new obj file must have the appropriate "text" headers . This can be created in a text editor like BBEdit .
