I think that Poser, using the Daz model line and accessories, not to mention many 3rd party accessories, allows you to do some great work. You go to many sites where somebody has posted a render or animation of a new human model they have made and, while I'm sure they've put a lot of work into it and are very proud of it, the truth is that almost nothing out there short of the work being done for feature films and high-end games comes even close to Poser/Daz. Anothor unfortunate truth, however, is that there is a crying need for simple and reliable export/import for Poser/Daz into popular 3D programs. I use Cinema 4DXL7 on the Mac, and have had some success with using V3 in it (via Poser and the XL7 plug-in), but it is really like pulling teeth with all the back-and-forth, and now I've been wanting to switch over to 4D8 on OSX, but there is no OSX plug-in for C4D, nor is there, I suspect, a simple way to work with Daz models in many other applications. I really think that Poser/Daz would do itself a huge favor, and would see an explosion of interest and usage--and of course, sales--if they concentrated on broadening the use of its models and application into the broader world of 3D software.

If you are not into animation, and/or do not want to rig your character in Cinema (CBmaps are of course much better for joints than Poser's antiquated method), there isn't much difficulty though. You can follow jddog's tutorial here at R. to see how you can open a posed V3 or whatever in C4D and how you can apply the textures to it. The most important things are a/ export from poser as obj, b/ import settings for obj in Cinema multiply with some hundred and c/ change to default view. It is a bit tedious having to import and assign the textures, but it's well worth the trouble. There is a plug-in, created by Spanky, that expands obj import and export in Cinema, but that is, for the moment, only for WinPC's. otoh, now that Cinema9 is out, I personally wouldn't upgrade to 8.2 anymore. If you pose in Poser and then export, you can easily use soft selections and tweak mode to correct joints.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Everything is fine and dandy if you make stills, but there is no good way to transfer animations. I really want to use ClothHilde (the new C4D R9 cloth simulation) with my Poser models, but for this I need animation support. So I hold my breath 'til my heart explodes…

You know what is right for you. I know what is right for me.

Thanks, Aeneas. Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as bjergtrold--I'm looking for an animation solution for Cinema 4D, in my case for MacOSX. I think Poser/Daz has great potential for animation, but , tho you can get some pretty good-looking animation with Poser/Daz/C4D, it's so hard that it's just not worth it after a while. I actually gave up on an animation I spent months on, even thought I was pleased with how it was coming out, because it just so damn hard.
