Subject: Remove Materials...help

ChaosSX ( ) posted Thu, 09 November 2000 at 2:23 PM ยท edited Tue, 03 December 2024 at 4:30 PM

Does anyone know how to remove materials from a poser character? I was grouping materials, and after getting the result just right, I now have a butt-load of Materials defined in my render menu that I do not need. I did a search, and the only message I found regarding this mentioned making a new group, 'including' the material, then deleting the old group. I tried that. It removed the extra/first group...but in the render menu I still have all the old Materials defined. I can see the names in the obj/Cr2 file...but I am afraid of editing it. I do not want to accidently remove the materials I -do- want to keep. Can someone please help?

This is easiest with John Stalling's CR2 editor from the freestuff/utilities. I use (and could not do without) his version 1.40. Open your CR2 file in it and scroll down to "figure". Expand that and you will see the materials. Hilight/right click/delete the ones you do not want. Re-save the file. Hope this helps, philc_agatha_white_on_black.jpg

The version of CR2 editor in the freestuff is 1.52 which is buggy and can corrupt CR2s. Get the earlier version, 1.51 here: http://www.egroups.com/files/PoserTECH/Cr2Editor151.zip http://www.egroups.com/files/PoserTECH/Cr2editor.PDF You'll probably have to join the list through Egroups. -JH.

Morph Manager 4 removes unused materials automatically.

Yes, Morph Manager will do it for you and add materials from the OBJ that are not in the cr2. All you need do is load up the cr2, then its associated obj then save out with the material options set. Won't work too well with custom groupings but if its a straight char with obj it works fine.

Regarding the CR2Editor(1.51), Man that program is SMOOTH! I never knew it existed. It sure helps out a lot with editing files! Problem solved, thanks for all your help. Seriously, I think Creative Lab's next version of Poser should include the CR2Editor and Morphmanager as part of the package (and of course the 2 authors should get full credit and royalities), because I can't see how to live without them. It's like they complete Poser.
