Subject: Import Problem

Doona ( ) posted Wed, 25 August 2004 at 10:31 PM · edited Wed, 14 August 2024 at 8:06 PM

I am using Vue 4.22 and Poser 5. I attempted to import V3 with the Shahara texture (RDNA). Her eyes came over as white empty sockets. There is a separate mat file for the eyes. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what that is. If anyone could help me with her vacant stare, I'd appreciate it. I'm fairly new to Vue.

I assume that then the rest come over ok. Have you checked the materials? Wether the eye texture came over too and wether the material settings are ok? You get the material summary with F6. Right-click onto the material will let you edit it. There are a lot of differences between the Poser and the Vue render method, therefore these two programs setup materials differently. One for example is the black highlight color with strong highlight size that Poser defines, Vue prefers white and a smaller setting for example. I get much better skin results when i change that in Vue after importing the character. Maybe a setting like that for the eyes (too strong refelection, the overlay of color and texture to name only two possibilities) is the reason for the problem. I am not as familiar with these things as others and i dont have Savannah therefore i only guess - more or less.

Did you import it as a pz3 or an object? If you tone down the reflection on the eye material, that may be your problem. Sharen

How does the eye texture look like whithin the material editor? The eyeball usually has a transparent setting. Maybe that's what went wrong. I always apply a glass texture to the eyeball to achieve a much more realistic look. I have the Shahara character myself but didn't have any time to check in Vue myself. I'll give it a try when I get home.

Thank you all for such fast responses. I will try to play with this later and let you know what happens. Wabe: I did not check the materials (I didn't know how) and I imported everything as a single mesh. Even after ungrouping I was not able to get back to the eye texture. Thank you for the tip about F6. SAMS3D: Sharen, I imported it as a pz3. estherau: I have the latest updates for both P5 and Vue TheWingedOne: I wasn't able to get to the eye texture within the material editor. More questions before I try this again: Should I be importing as a single mesh, or use the other option? I apologize for not playing enough with this before I left the question, but it's not the first time it's happened. The problems seem to be with the Generation 3 characters, V2 & Millenium girls don't have the same problems with the eyes. I appreciate all your help and I promise I will try this again later. I'll post a pic this time.

Hi, Phil remember I once emailed you about exact same problem, wingedone and I had same computer and same models, and he was able to import normally, and I had your eye problem. I don't suppose you remember how we fixed it. Pity they delete IMs from renderosity when they get old. I wish I knew how I solved it but it was so long ago. It wasn't anything to do with the particular model or textures or materials. If you're really stuck you could try reinstalling your software. Love esther
