here is a scene, one light and a sphere for lights.note the light falls off very fast(not real light but the TA effect).16 RPP,45 minutes render.

Here is the next, only no sphere.Note, there is however fog and haze added( and the light now does not fall off as fast).RPP at full, rendertime 22hrs.Both scenes are at 20megs&up because of hirez textures being used, I'll try to get a scene with middle settings for a control scene set up and posted.

This is exactly what i was opposed to...the "old way" and "new way" are not demonstrated in an equivalent manner. It's not even the same SCENE being used. How can you demonstrate something effectively on two VERY different scenes? Set it both up on the same scene, with equivalent settings (As in...both at the same RPP, etc.) and we'll be able to see a true difference.

Hmm, interesting, but I think I need to study these on a better monitor (current monitor is a bit contrast challenged). Scene file could be interesting to leave rendering for a few days.

true ambience is the devil. there is no bigger rendertime hog than that, and the results, unless you're at 256rpp, are grainy. just my two cents.

airlynx ( ) posted Fri, 27 August 2004 at 9:36 AM

I like grainy. sometimes I add grain in photoshop. I've never seen a photograph without a little graininess or a little noise in it somewhere.

Slakker ( ) posted Fri, 27 August 2004 at 9:38 AM

Come now, Drac...TA makes for good renders, as long as you've got a simple scene. IMO, a few well placed radials will make it look just as good, if not better.

TwistedBolt ( ) posted Fri, 27 August 2004 at 3:27 PM

You guys are right,I could have easily done those scenes, with 5 radials max in both scenes.Until the render engine in bryce is completely overhauled....I will just pass these off as mere "Bryce Oddities".Although, that warehouse pic is quite moody for a 45min render...I may still tweak with it out of boredness.
