Subject: 2D texture to 3D model?

PhilC ( ) posted Thu, 26 August 2004 at 7:34 AM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 8:29 AM

Would there be any interest in a program that took a 2D texture and made it into a 3D model? Something like Draw texture ... click, ... click, ... click, ... load into Poser .... works. Just a thought.

Oh I don't know ... just thought it may be neat to draw a front and back texture, click a couple of buttons, and have it load into Poser. There would be a trade off with the texture stretching at the seams but that could be addressed in UVMapper. The hard part of how to make the clothing would be done for you. But no one would want it that easy surely?

LOL...are you kidding....of course you are....that would be amazing if I could do that, cause I can't for the life of me model clothing. Sharen

I don't know how you'd pull that off, but if you did, I'd have to build a little shrine to you somewhere. That would be incredible.

Agrees with FyreSpiryt :) This will probably be the biggest breakthrough I've seen in the six years I'm here!

Go for it, Phil. It would be very useful!

Your wife murmured something about you not sleeping for a week, giggling giddily, and running naked through the streets shouting that you'd found the secret to happiness, which I wouldn't have believed except for the part about your beard wagging back and forth, which is the sort of detail one can't possibly make up, so it must be true. Dynamic?

Ah! But we aren't asking the hard questions... what happens when the knees are bent?

ronstuff ( ) posted Sun, 29 August 2004 at 2:46 PM

Looks promising, and if it generates a clean starting mesh, it would be incredible. Almost everything else could be addressed with UV Mapper and morphs or dynamic cloth. I'd buy a prototype just to check it out! Any chance you could show us the wireframe?
