Heya Sabine, 3D Eplorer might be just what you want...at the moment it is still in beta testing but it works fine and is free it will accept a whole range of formats and will export in them as well though unfortunately 3ds is not one of them it does quite a few other formats. It will also fix some problems also like inverted faces. I use it to veiw all my mesh archives..to me it is great! :) Regards EshalI'm a genetically enhanced blonde...what's your excuse? ~Eshal~
I have tried countless apps in Windows, and have found that Polytrans is the ONLY conversion program that translates .3DMF to .3DS. I believe the reason there is a problem with converting is a binary/ascii incombatibility issue between the file types and programs that import them (like Bryce). You can get a demo of Polytrans from their website (I don't know the URL), but the full version is $300-400. If anyone can help us on this - I am desperate, too!
The problem with Polytrans is that the demo version (downloadable at http://www.okino.com) is missing every 5th polygon when a mesh is exported; so I cannot use that; and as I have only two (!) files to convert I am not willing to pay the $395 for the PC version just for having TWO FILES converted! The other one, 3D Explorer, would be just fine if it would do what it is told to do on the website! The website says that *.3dmf and also *.3ds files are supported, but the *.3dmf files are not, as far as I can see. But because the registration fee is here at about $40, I have written to them asking if this depends on the evaluation version or not. I will see if they answer. Thanks even though; maybe someone else of you has some other ideas...? Sabine

As I did not get any answers on this topic in the 3D Applications Forum, I will try it here and in the 3DSMax-Forum once more. Hi, anyone knowing a software (hopefully freeware :-)) that can convert *.3dmf data to *.3ds (or something equal that Bryce can import without having all the meshes combined)? Or, to say it in another way, if there is no software to download somewhere, can anyone do this for me with two objects if he / she has the software? Would be great. Please answer here in the forum or send a mail to sabine@binas-welt.de (have changed my mail adress and still have not changed it here in Renderosity...) Thankx Sabine
