Subject: Vue 4.22 Update....

MikeJ ( ) posted Sun, 29 August 2004 at 7:04 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 10:38 AM

I downloaded and installed the Vue 4.22 full update a little while ago, and, I don't seem to have any problems that I didn't already have. I see that somewhere along the way Vue 4 learned how to deal with Poser *.bum bump maps, which would be cool if I hadn't already long ago converted my .bum's to jpeg's and such. ;) One interesting thing: The Open GL seems to work now with my Nvidia GeForce FX card, which it didn't do with 4.06. Well, it sort of works... The preview is just fine, none of that weird "interference" all over the screen, but when I move my camera, the views continue to show it in it's old position before the move. The new position is shown for a second, until I click somewhere, then it goes back, although the render represents the new position. Still, it's kind of annoying in that I'm not actually seeing just where my camera is. It's been about 3 years since I bought Vue 4 (I think...Came out in the Fall of 2001, right?), and we're all still waiting for it to work on all our systems as it was supposed to work back then, LOL! Well, maybe one of these days... Anyhow, it's cool to see that E-on is still putting out free updates. I would have figured they'd have given up by now, and be telling us just to wait for Vue 5. Of course, they are pretty swell people. :) Speaking of Vue 5, I'm looking forward to it. I bought my Vue 4 as an update to Vue 3, and I think I saved like a hundred bucks or something like that. Anyone know if I'll be able to get an update rate on Vue 5 when my Vue 4 was an update?

I think someone said we would have an upgrade to Vue 4. Can't wait. I got Pro and like that too, so I guess it will depend on what features this offers that Pro doesn't. Sharen

if you read the vue5 press relase by e.on it clearly say youll be able to upgrade from vue4 to vue5 esprit.

as far as going from vue4 pro to vue5 esprit, i would say that going from vue4 pro to vue5 pro would make more sense in my opinion but i guess only time will tell, and well know more once we see some public specs on both versions.

Well, I was wondering if it might change things considering that my Vue 4 was already an update...from Vue 3, like maybe you only get one software discount/update per version or something like that, posibly making my Vue 4 ineligible for a discounted upgrade to Vue 5.

Mike, I have never heard of a company that would do that. I have upgraded several packages from version to version with no problems. Haven't with Vue yet, as I started with version 4; but they would be shooting themselves in the foot, as well as elsewhere if they had that policy.

Hi Mike, how are you? Whenever you upgrade, you become a legitimate owner of the new version. At least that's what commonly happens.

Thanks for the info. Like I said, I just didn't know, and my internet connection has been spotty at best, making it hard for me to gaet info on such things. Hiya Orio! I'm doing pretty well, thank you, aside from this small matter of this Hurricane Frances which is about to run us over here in sunny central Florida... So how are you doing? Hey Orio, I don't know if you remember, but you're the one who got me interested in Vue in the first place, way back in early 2000, in the Poser e-group (before it became yahoo), when I almost was gonna go with Bryce.... until you got me to d/l the Vue 3 demo. Here it is, four years later and I'm still all into it. Thanks, man. :)

hi Mike, it's been a pleasure! Man how time flies eh? Well almost everyone has had a mentor, mine (for Vue) has been the well-known Varian. We of the "old guard" are somehow "sparse" because of our many committments, but some now and then it's nice to meet again! Orio

Yeah, time flies alright. Every day, getting older.... Probably better not to think about it. ;)
